Irish Border post Brexit

It seems now that the Irish border issue was an utter con

Mr Varadkar added the UK would adopt World Trade Organisation trade rules if there was no deal which could lead to a smooth border.
He added: “If the UK crashed out of the European Union at the end of March they would still be aligned on customs and regulations.
“So the problem would only arise if they decided in some way to change their customs and regulations.

Agreeing to a backstop should be no problem so !
With the technological solution the ERG proposed for a seamless border the backstop will never be invoked.
Thought JRM was cleverer than that

Is that not just what the UK are trying to do with the eu

Much worse for us. It’s nearly 60 % of our exports when you include trade deals we have through EU membership with other countries. Must even be more than that since the recent deals with Canada and now Japan.

Your forgetting the net trade. Just like Norway the EU exports more to UK than is imported from UK therefore they have more to lose. Joining EFTA sorts out deals with the likes of Canada and Japan has already said a deal would be on the table when we leave the EU.

Your comparing apples with oranges.
The Eu trading block is 10 times bigger than the Uk trading block so if just say the net figures were similar. It would affect them 10 times less than us

And Dev offering the Germans condolences on the death of Hitler?
Sickening to those Southern Irish that volunteered to fight him.
300,000 of them. The were a fair few VC awarded to southern irishmen . Yet when northern irish catholic men came home from the war the had to resume their status as second class citizens in their own country and the British goverment did nothing about it . The seeds of discontent were sown which led to the nightmare that followed.

WWII Irish 'deserters' finally get pardons

DUBLIN (Reuters) – Ireland does not rule out asking the European Union to relax or waive some rules of the single market in the event of a no-deal Brexit in order to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland, Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said on Wednesday.

Asked if Ireland would need any derogations to avoid a hard border, Coveney said: “That will be an ongoing conversation. We don’t have anything like a conclusion to that discussion yet.”

“If a no-deal Brexit becomes more likely outcome, of course we will have to have very detailed discussions with the commission” about how to maintain the integrity of the single market, he added.

An interesting perspective but whilst some disruption at ports, both air and sea, I was not aware that services traveled in parcels or containers. Naturally there will still be regulation and artificial barriers but the customs union does not appear to come into the equation in this respect. The Rotterdam situation is another questionable red herring. Despite the convenience of deep waters there are facilities that could be further developed in this country thus further reducing our "imports" dependence.

Products and services are inseparable in many cases.
You see when you buy a product like a car, the car is the product and the pan European waranty is the service.

Everyday is a school day for some !

Therefore no imported car means a reduction in imported services also though these are included in the price of the car. A very convenient way of clouding the issue and proving that statistics are not black and white. How much is the warranty worth ? Nothing until called upon. I expect the scaremongers on both sides employ such propaganda as suits them.and always will.
I know that European cars exported to the USA will cost the manufacturer far more per claim than they will within Europe. Do the Yanks pay more for them than we do?

The price of a warranty is factored in the price of every car whether used or not.
If your ever buying a used tractor ask the dealer how much cheaper it would be without a warranty. He’ll knock off a fair bit or he’s taking you for a walk.

By the way calling facts propaganda undermines your argument immeasurably !

Facts, real manipulated or unauthentic are all used as propaganda because they are all subject interpretation. And since you mentioned it earlier, everyday is a school day for all unless some know it all already.
