Is it really a two year payback as claimed in the farmers guardian, 23/11/18? Surely too good to be true. Welcome feedback on this.

I don’t know about the article you refer to but they are great when combined with underfloor heating and a well insulated property. If you are thinking of a drafty farmhouse forget it

I thought the room with aa biomass boiler is hot and recovering the heat may be viable

They just use the air or the underground pipes to dump, get rid of the cold, and keep the heat in the house. Wales certainly isn't Iceland. No hot springs here!

You would needto size tour pump very precisely, if you try taking too much out all you will do isfreeze the condenser.

Fake news. Installs with about 5 rad standard upgrade can be in the region of £13,000.
The maximum you can receive from RHI is £10,000
Air Source heat pumps sized and installed correctly are one of the cheapest heating systems on the market. New ultra quiet Mitsubishi ashp have an efficiency of 3.65/1. So if you pay £0.16 for an electric unit the heat is £0.043p.
LPG average is 8p
Mains connected gas 4.2p
Oil (volitile market) 5.7p/7.6p
Biomass pellets 4.6p
Coal 3p
We have lots of enquires regarding ashp and gshp, hotly sought after home upgrades.

Solar will help but not tremendously as it’s a heating product needed in winter, but it will contribute.
What happens to all the cold air produced?

It’s recycled back into the atmosphere to await thermal heating.
If you’re thinking of capturing it the system doesn’t exhaust cold air long, so not worth rigging up a cool exchange system.

Wasted... such a stupid system, be ok if there was a need for cold storage ,and heat for a building or hot water the same time.

The Americans widely use combined air con plants producing hot water, but that is not a lot of use here in mid winter

Beware quotes from installers without knowing the temperature at which the efficiency ratio was quoted.
In mild winter weather they are ok but as the temp drops so does the efficiency. In cold weather you can be down to 2:1 or less so it's not so cheap. Need to work out on average figures for monthly temp to get true costs.
I was seriously looking at it for a new build until I talked to a few plumbers who all said it's great but make sure you have oil back up!!!!?
