The rights and wrongs of this probably depend a bit upon one's individual farm business structure

The higher the proportion of capital locked in to land and buildings, which will fall in real value as sterling depreciates, the more attractive it is to hedge with a couple of years of grain.

Still can't see the £ having any great drop. If there was a chance of it, the market will already have factored it in by now.

Anytime it has looked like any sort of brexit certainty was coming, whether deal or no deal, the £ has actually strengthened.

It will definitely fluctuate a fair bit, but from what base level?

Milling oats £183-185 ex farm for January. May not get that price if you are based in Sennen

I do like to consider all the potential scenarios
The best possible to the worst possible
I feel this helps to maintain perspective

The news /prediction media up to Christmas was all uk brexit based
But there is a lot of news out side that that will have as big an impact on the uk as brexit

Still all possible brexit sea Rios possible so not actively doing anything different need to be fleet footed and awake to any possible action to any scenario
2019 will be an interesting year !!!!!
Weather will be the biggest factor for grain prices as is usually the case

There is nothing in the forecasts to suggest a topping up of the groundwater in these parts a time soon, don't know about eastern counties, but a hot summer on the reserves that we currently have will make for an interesting harvest.
All to play for, I reckon.

We were at field capacity before Christmas with drains and rivers flowing well
