Had your haulier promised to move them or not?

No, I can’t lay the blame squarely on them. Although I do have some concerns with them only having one lorry on the go most of the time. They tell me they can’t get the extra permits and when they can BS are giving them Sunday ones!

I know it’s not good to have them in clamp too long but we do manage them better than we used to. We don’t push them up with a bucket anymore so they’re not getting cut and compacted in. We also use round bales so air than go through the clamp a bit better. They were harvested the last week end of November in dry conditions with very little dirt too.

We had to weigh up the pros and cons, we’ve gone to all winter drilling for cereals. (Always seems to come too dry in the spring for spring cereals here) we want to be drilled up by Christmas. One year we lost a field of beet with frost, so vowed to have them all up by then.

I think the only year we didn’t make our quota was when we lost that field.

Apart from the crowns growing this year they still look ok, but obviously I’d be happier if they had gone already!

All beet delivered 80.84 T/HA ..

Not to bad for this year I don’t think..

Impressive - is that dirty, clean or adjusted? We've lifted about 30% so far, 73.7t/ha off 10ha - to say the first 2.5ha only did 50t/ha (lifted 2nd week Oct) I'm quite happy so far - most of the rest was irrigated, so it'll be interesting to see if it actually made any difference!

You're not far off the mark there, we are allowed to leave crowns on but if you store for long in these milder winters I wonder if we would be better off topping them properly? ( we had a rubbish plant so poor topping)
I think you get less sugar with more crowns for the reasons you describe
