International 574 lift advice

Hi guys,
I have recently bought a wee 574 as a bit of a project and to have a handy wee machine about the house and to settle a nostalgic itch, memories of hauling grass with one years ago (rose tinted glasses)
This was her when I went to view :

Now I have it looking a bit better, power washed it for a day, and spent a few evenings sorting wiring issues, gave it a full service and tidied up a few cab bits.

I just have a wee hydraulic issue, the lift arms do not raise fully with the position control, they do on the draft control no problem so there are no restrictions on the lift cylinder.
I tried adjusting the link rod between the lever in the cab and the arm going into the lift cover but it made no difference so I “think” the problem is where the shaft goes into the cover, is this shaft splined or how is it fixed inside and can I adjust it easily without ripping the back end apart?

How far from fully do they not lift? They will not lift to release the puh latches on the position lever like almost all other tractors. The posistion lever only lifts to roughly 97-99% of the lift arc

No, they stop about 4” below starting to lift the puh bars.

With the arms right up, try pulling the auxiliary lever, on the right below the main hydraulic levers, this will usually lift arms enough to release puh.

Thanks, I will try that, although I don’t know if it will raise it by the amount I need, I will maybe get a few pictures too

In through the top plate (below the the seat) there is an adjustment requirement perhaps a small tweak with a 10mm spanner. Perhaps Gapples or Richard W will confirm if they read this. I did it with some email help from a very helpful IH mechanic several years ago. Problem is that without looking at it it I could not describe.

So I tried this today, it did lift the arms a small amount more but nowhere enough to engage the hitch. I now believe it must be some from of internal adjustment needed as the drop rate slows right down long before the lift lever reaches the step at the bottom of the gate, it should only slow right at the end of travel

Check the length of the control rod on the position linkage eye centre's ( 82.82mm )
If this is correct you need to have a look inside the aforementioned small panel under the seat at the internal linkages.

Obviously have a good look for loose linkage anywhere from lever to control valve inside the hydraulic top cover.

Thanks Gapples, when I first discovered the problem I did adjust the control rod but it made no difference, so I set the length back to where it was initially and checked it against the manual and it was pretty close to the proper measurement as far as I could judge with a tape measure.

There are no loose linkages anywhere externally, so it seems like deeper investigation is required.

I think the splined position control shaft

has been fitted to the internal rocker assembly a tooth or two out of alignment or rotated away from position and this may be what is causing my problems, is this possible and is it possible to correct this with the 10 mm nut mentioned by essexpete?

Hi Paddy
That adjustment on the main draft spool is really for fine adjustment.
I've never tried doing any major adjustments on it so I simply don't know if it will be possible to achieve what you need.
You may have to go inside to have a look, see what's going on.
