Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I would hope that they're a bit more than that for next week, got a dozen just about heavy enough to go to them but may take them to market tomorrow with some slightly lighter ones (all tups)
Do you take lambs up to davella or have you got a collection centre nearer to you
I take them up to David's place, I've got the last of my lambs grazing in turnips In Talgarth atm, theres probably 40 or 50 ready to go there, will see what there giving on Monday, if it's not good enough they'll be heading to market.

You claimed that you can weigh/ load and deliver lambs within 5 minutes when actually you DONT weigh your lambs 5 minutes before you take them to market and you don't even weigh them the day they go to market!

They are in fact weighed quite a few days before the market and they could easily lose weight between then and the day they go to market ( as well as of course putting weight on )

Unless you have your new weights verified after you have set them up there is NO WAY you can be sure they are 100% accurate and certainly not by pulling out some weights to check them that are god knows how many years old and they themselves may be incorrect.

As for pictures on here, your choice to put them on here but strange you only post pictures of your very best animals, never seen any of the 2nd/ 3rd grade ones like Monday and its very clear you were not happy with the market weights for Mondays lambs yet you have no idea how accurate your old weights are.

Read my post again, I pre weigh and then check weigh on the morning before they go on my trailer, it takes barely any time to weigh again, its just a check to make sure they are in my selection criteria for the draw I'm making.

As you rightly say they could gain or loose weight in the few days from Thursday. (Oh and typically they gain here unless they have an underlying problem). But the time to select is not included in my 5 mins. Its a final double check as they run through the scales onto the trailer. But if you want to be pedantic then make it 10 mins, but how that effects weight loss between farm gate and market scales Im not sure??

Ive not said the new digital scales will be 100% correct, but they will be 100% easier to read and zero than spring scales, yes they have been checked by feed bags and feed blocks (both you would hope are from a source that has their scales check officially), as good as that gets on farm. But I have old weights to use as well, if they are with in 0.5kg then happy enough with that, hell others on this thread say things move more as their lambs get weighed 3 or 4 hours pre sale.

As to your final comment, yep maybe some of the pictures are my best lambs, well actually they are not, my best lambs all go privately, second draw lambs as well, but those are my own lambs, born and bred here.

This weeks lambs are stores I bought in the summer. They dont make my grade for private sales, they would never have done so. They were bought simply to make a profit which that comfortably have done so. Oh and in the process of making a few quid direct they have done some more good in fertilising some of my arable ground, there's a value there too.

Little challenge, put a picture up of some of your best beasts into Sedgemore these last few months......too far for me to drag up there on a Saturday when I have better things to do so would love to see them......

Sadly that is due to jerry and silverfox, the latter in particular who is nothing more than a troll/ bully and seems to get away with breaking every forum rule going.

Not quite sure why @Clive allows silverfox to be allowed to do this.

Much better if we could stick to the thread topic of prices but as long as silverfox etc troll/ bully other posters then the other posters will have no choice but to respond.

..

I hope your new weights are as accurate as you are hoping they are going to be.

And as for your lambs on Monday, as I made clear in another post they were not of your normal very high standard that you normally take to market and suffice you cannot expect them to weigh as well as the high grade/ type of lambs that you normally take to market.

Very clear from your and silverfox's numerous posts from Saturday night its very clear to everyone that its you and your buddy who are having the pop, shame that the pair of you want to ruin this very good thread and bully/ troll other users off TFF.

Weight is weight though even if they've gone over a spring balance scale it's still the weight of them it doesn't matter if they're O grade or E grade, fair enough if they've lost condition since the Thursday but it didn't sound like they had

Yep weight is weight I agree but your dealing with livestock and there is always a lot of variable's that can effect the weights either up or down, they were only 0.5 kilo less than the on farm weight which is here nor there, if they were say 2/3 kilos less then of course that would be a different matter.

And of course E/U grade animals should weigh better than say R/O grade animals and the latter will quite often lose weight quicker than a E grade animal for some unknown reason if any animal does lose weight between weighing and market day.

Can I suggest that a moderator has a trawl through the last few pages of this thread, deleting all the name calling and ‘pot calling kettle black’ posts, so we can get back on topic? @Clive or whoever, please.
I agree

I've already dished out a few warning points and edited some.

I will try to get this done today but I agree with you. Why the heck folks have to be so daft with the comments when there's no need

I totally agree, this is a great thread and I certainly only come on here to use it/ post prices/ ask prices etc which is what it should be about, trouble is every time I read this thread there is yet more trolling of me by silverfox and Jerry, no one is going to put up with that without responding, especially now when silverfox is trolling on an almost daily basis, this needs to be stamped out so everyone can get back to what the purpose of the thread should be about and that is livestock prices for beef and sheep.

And the sooner the trolling stops ( just read Saturday nights posts by the above 2 ) and we can just discuss the thread topic of prices the better it will be for all of us.

I think @willy may well have tagged the wrong poster :scratchhead::rolleyes:

I've dealt with four reports last night and this morning. Thanks to all who flagged things up

I've also been back through the thread as @neilo suggested and tried to pull out as much non topic stuff as I can without ruining the thread

Can I ask PLEASE that folks take a chill pill, think before they post and de-personalise their remarks.

It always seems to be the same few who spark off each other and I won't have any issue with putting all / both on Pre-Mod if necessary

Thank you

Please read my post just posted. I can tell you folks get sick of all of this from both sides.

Just ignore it and please tone down your comments too (no need for capitals and shouting on TFF either)

@Jerry have you got any 56lb weights? I have a few here from the spud days and their easy to “check” weigh the Combi clamp too. Just a shame that that moves all the time. I look forward to hearing how you get on with your new weibhscsles as I need a new head for 1 I borrow.
you need to make sure the bits of lead haven't fallen out of the weights or the wont be right
