Do the coulters still penetrate when you get to a combine wheeling. Seriously considering a Dale to DD osr and beans and use in a 2nd wheat situation in min till. Will the Dale cope with trashy min tilled land?

Am thinking of converting from duetts to Dutch openers aswell now but confused as to which points to go with?
Looking to drill beans so guess the 1" points for this?
Wheat/barley; some say 2.5" for less soil disturbance than 5" which others recommend?
Also looking to dd spring cereals?
Also what about drilling osr direct? I'd guess the 1" especially this year to go deep to get combine wheelings out but obviously don't want the seed going that deep- do you just take pipe off & dribble it on top?

We are running them , 1" for beans , now have made own pipes to run down the back , 2.5" for OSR with liquid fert, 5" for cereals , you need new roll pins every time you change points and invest in some decent punches .
Sorry to resurrect this thread. If you were drilling rape using a 1inch dutch point would the tip of the coulter cultivate sufficiently deep compared to where it places the seed. I would much prefer for the seed to be placed rather than broadcast following the coulter but really I would like at least an inch of loosened soil below the seed. I see dutch do the 2737 point which looks like it adds 3/4 inch of vertical depth. Has anyone used this? The only alternative would be the Metcalfe coulter but I would have to swap back to dutch for wider band widths?

I’ve used 1” point for drilling osr for last 2 seasons. In my opinion it’s not the right point to use, depth is quite uneven.
What do you think is the best osr drilling setup?

I was wondering about putting 1" dutch openers onto a Horsch CO for drilling spring beans.
Are they worth the extra money over the Horsch solo points. What is the advantage ?

Solo points are the same points off the duets mounted on a plate so about 1.5”. Can’t help with Dutches.

Got a ST in the autumn just gone with the view we’d swap to metcalfe or dutch openers for autumn 19. However having now used the duetts I think we’ll stick with them because the combination of high seed rates and wide band effect has done a job on grass weeds so far. Yes higher soil movement but it’s not such an issue for late drilling.
were the duets into cultivated soil or direct ?

Bit of both. 8-10kmh max though to avoid the coulter springing so seed depth was good.
Is this on wheat or OSR? Or both? Why do you think the wide bands have done a job on grass weeds? Less soil moved? Cheers!

You can get similar width Dutch or Bourgault coulters to the Duets and more importantly for your late drilling you loose that heal effect that is the achilles heal of the Duet coulter so don't discount them just wear the Duets out and then change over then

Both and you can’t have a wide band with minimal soil movement!
It’s worked due to a later drilling date and a higher seed rate in my opinion. We’ve covered the ground and smothered the grass weeds out ....... well so far anyway!
