I am on Strava. Will join the TFF group. I am in the ballot for ride London this year so hope to get a place. Need to start training soon as my current max distance is 55 miles. Will probably do a couple of sportives before London to help the practice.

If you're off 8.20 then make 8.00 your target, pace yourself using the 500m split times, 2.05 is 8.20 so go off at that and keep it there. Don't go off too fast, when I was training hard would often be quicker in second half. Have the drag set at 120 to 130 which usually corresponds to about 4 on the fan depending how much dust and rubbish has built up, don't do what the meatheads at the gyms do and put it on 10. Best workout going, would recommend some 5kms as well at nice steady pace. Used to be just over 18 mins for 5km and I'm only 5'9", 10.5st, that was 20 years ago though...

Got down to 8.34 on setting 7 which the gym guy told me to put it on - this is after a weights workout so probably a bit tired. Makes it easier to divide into 4 and head for that. I think to really improve I agree I need to be aiming for longer rows of 20-25 mins first - need to get some wifi headphones first!

With iPhone you need iOS 11 and above. Mrs bg has just had a new iPhone se which I am fairly sure is on the latest iOS update so it would be fine for strava. I don’t know about android.

My teenage children used to do 6.5 minutes / 2km when intensively training at school. GB rowers would be under 6 minutes:eek: Now you’ve got a target to aim for. :D I’m more of a 9 minute man:whistle:
I used a rowing machine today for the first time in years
Did 10k on exersice bike and had 15 mins spare so jumped on the rower:facepalm:
2k in 9.09 near killed me:banghead:

Did notice after it was on setting 10:facepalm:

I haven’t been to the gym since January. The rowing machine is ok, but I couldn’t do 5k like my children used to. :eek:10 minutes is plenty. I only used one in November for the first time ever and thought I might need assistance to stand up again:woot: It did get better over the weeks but never broke 9 minutes. Maybe next winter:whistle:

Well done. Great effort. (y)

Been too much land work here to even contemplate going to the gym. My children used to row at school and trained virtually every day. The ergos were their main winter training when the river was in flood; regularly doing 5k on them. :woot:They were extremely fit from it. I joined the gym last autumn to try and improve my flexibility, as although very active, I’m not as flexible as I might be. It has helped and I have felt better for it. Even lost a stone over winter too, but that is from more tree work and more thoughtful eating habits :)

I’m pleased you are able to improve your performance. Don’t forget to enjoy it too:D
