The Met office does not forecast much past five days, so it appears anything else is press speculation, or as in the past, by my late M in law...
don't think they use the metoffice these dayssaw a forecast on the bbe website the other day in which they froecast a mainly damp but mildish jan but went on to say that it was possible it would be much colder,how much do these folks get paid for this guesswork

I’ve been doing a bit of fencing this morning and barely made a mark with the tractor. I can’t remember a January when I could get a tractor on the fields other than on a frost.
Nice though it is we’ll be in trouble later this year if we don’t see a good drop of rain.

Bring it on,That will be great for my firewood sales,winter tyres already fitted to pickup,plenty of well seasoned Ash, what more do I need “a new back and set of leg muscles” to lift wood on to firewood processor.
