Irish Border post Brexit

If you don't get it, the "good friday agreement" costs money, and both the UK and the EU are paying for it. After brexit what makes you believe the EU will continue to pay money to keep peace in NI? The UK will have to pay more money or eventually drop the land because it wont be convenient anymore.

This is the typical british policy, invade a land and tax them as much you can. The NI is under a dictatorship of taxes. The USA had their independent war because of the taxes the UK was imposing the them. It is called colonialism, and when you see the money you get are less then the money you give you drop the place like you did many times already.

"The Agreement assumes continuing EU membership for both the UK and Ireland but binds neither explicitly to maintaining that membership."

Are you in the EU and in their membership now? There is no agreement that says the EU has to pay especially when the UK wont be a member anymore.

"That High Court in Belfast declared in October 2016 that it would be an over-statement to suggest that EU membership was a constitutional bulwark central to the Good Friday Agreement, which would be breached by notification of Article 50."

This means that the article 50 is not directly linked to the "good friday agreement", therefor the brexit under a certain point might be "illegal" according to the agreement itself, therefor the agreement might end as not supported by the EU anymore. Regards.
So we are paying twice then as the eu doesn’t actually have any money only what it gets off the few net contributors

I'm trying to figure out what is the problem here, because i have reported a document that clearly says the EU is contributing with money to keep the peace in NI. This is because the NI as member of the UK has been in the EU for decades. What do you find hard to get? Regards.

I’d just leave it guys. He doesn’t realise he’s been fed a load of propaganda, and swallowed it whole! He knows the history of ni better than a load of us who have lived here all our lives, through the troubles and all. Anyone reading his posts can see the animosity towards the uk and can see what he says is completely one sided. Being a devils advocate is one thing, being a troll is something quite different!

Quite fascinating how others view us as well.A bit like one of Burns,"to see ourselves as others see us"
As you are considering resuming Dairy farming its essential that you visit us to update your knowledge. Moorepark for grass based profitable seasonal the production in a reasonable dry early climate, Ballyhaise for the same on later heavier wetter ground. And finally Greenhills for the high input high output model. Then you can sign up with Teagasc for proper impartial advice and research what are you waiting for ???

Please don't take what the Devil says, or quotes as the true reflection of NI., Ulster, or The North of Ireland as some call it.
We have our fair share of Biggots and Idiots, just as any other country in the world does, if you look for them.
Most people here just want to get on with their neighbours and make a living for them and their families. I am Protestant, and my mate and work colleague is Catholic . we have worked all over the country, and never been asked our religion, most people are more interested in a good job at the right money. I was at school with a mix of religions, our area is mixed, and neighbours help each other. If you go into the cities where the paramilitaries of both sides carve up the turf between them, you will find trouble if you want to look for it. This Devil boy is not painting a picture of the country I know and have lived in for almost 70 years, he is choosing to give a very slanted view to suit himself, or his own agenda. What a lot of these people don't seem to realize is that 6x2 will hold us all eventually, what you believe happens after that is up to you.

Jendan, I found them interesting at the start, but like in the vegan debate, where you tell people things, but they don’t consider them, it isn’t a debate but rather just propaganda. I grew up in the troubles, but thankfully, in a less active part of the province, with a fairly unsectarian upbringing, so I like to think I have both eyes open. Both sides have unsavoury skeletons in the closet, but while the paramilitaries are still about, they’re more gangs than anything else now. There is no appetite for a border from anyone on the island, and hopefully no need for one. I have been watching a series on the bbc ‘pop goes northern ireland’. It’s a pretty horrific watch at times, seeing news footage after some of the worst atrocities, but I would hope that my countrymen would never plumb those depths again! Though I am a glass half full person by instinct!

The funny thing, is that i have quoted historians from your own country too. Yet i haven't heard a word from you but avoiding the talk. You know what i have said is true but you cannot handle the truth and you prefer to avoid it.

The problem in there is not catholics and protestants, the problem is that many british because of the UK migrated in NI and they did not get along with the irish who used to live in NI and the british were economically supported by the UK to "colonize" the NI, this is what really happened. It is not catholics vs protestants, it is native irish vs british immigrants. Regards.

This is just bollix tbh, history important yes, modern relevant only to be consinded to history and a reminder of messed up society used to be. This is sort of rubbish SF & DUP mouth that drives the real people north/south crackers, a reason SF following has hit a wall in south & will not increase in near future.

Similarly that article about Southern Ireland never being Britain’s friend is just clap trap. Do you realize how many relations, friends and work colleagues vast majority of people in Southern Ireland have from the UK. A lot of us have lived there, studied there or regularly visit the UK. While we might have a good understanding of our two history’s and joke about it, we have a massive amount of respect for modern Britain & if guilty of anything is maybe not overtly saying it. To say we re not friends & not rely on us is massively disingenuous.

I think it's a reasonable deal. Stick a five year time limit on the NI backstop, and she can have my vote. The EU wasn't going to let her off with a better deal, let's be honest with ourselves about that.

The UFU backed the deal, which was interesting considering a large make up of their members would be DUP and UUP leaning voters.

There are rumours of changes to the backstop coming from Germany and The Netherlands, but Dublin won't want to give an inch. Although the DUP are saying that the backstop has to go, I think a legally binding time limit would be enough to get their votes.

The people yes, but not the govern who don't usually do the interest of the people. The govern made a war there is not much to argue about it.
