Didn't get the chance to try the new riveter out as I ended up going away for the weekend to Barmouth swinging at last minute, anyway i'm back now and tried it out today fitting the bulkhead blanking plates ( cover's the holes in the footwell for the pedal boxes depending if its R/H/D or L/H/D ) and the riveter was awesome would never go back to a std rivet gun again :D

More riveting today as I noticed the heat shield on the n/s/f wing was hanging off due to 3 of the 4 rivets missing so I fitted 4 new rivets, then I fitted the wing stiffener to the same wing as I removed it to fit the intercooler a while, then while I was at it I decided to remove the headlight bowls ready for when we start painting :)

Last weekend i ordered my Ashcroft H.R.T.C. kit due to Syncro gearboxes anounsing from 1/1/2019 they won't be doing series gearbox work anymore so had to re-think what i was doing and decided to go ahead and order the high ratio transfer case kit from ashcrofts and also spoke to J.Beaumont's about rebuilding my gearbox and sending them the H.R.T.C. kit with the gearbox so they can build the kit up and bolt it to my gearbox which should be happening very soon then i can start doing more stuff to the 2a :D

I moded the alt bracket today to move the alt forward to line the alt pulley up with the water pump pulley and crank pulley, the belt in the pic was just cut and layed across the two pulleys pulled tight to set the spacing, still saucing a belt yet as its not a std belt.

nearly done now, only taken 5 or 6 years:unsure:
Head lining was sagging, cheat i found on web was to cut out the fabric, clean off the foam and paint. Works a treat(y) may be frowned apon, but the cost of a new one:eek:

the dark patch in the next section is where I started attacking the loose foam with the pressure washer... Too close:oops:

I take it that your going to use the series3 four speed gearbox? Will it handle the torque? I put an Isuzu 2.8 turbo in a series 3, just kept blowing the gearboxes. Would a 90/110 gearbox and tranfer box not have fitted in? But yours will be fine if your not going to do any heavy towing. Looks good, a lot of work.(y)

Using a late 2a suffix F, gearbox all syncro box like an S3 gearbox, not being used for heavy towing or being off roaded, used one before without any prob's fully recon'd gearbox.

A 90/110 gearbox would work better but the chassis would need to be chopped and welded and its a new galv chassis which I don't want to do plus I think I would loose D.V.L.A.originality points as the chassis would be altered and a Def gearbox fitted.

Yeah I've been doing mine for about 3 yrs now off and on, part paying for son's wedding plus doing up my old 90 to sell for son's wedding last year slowed me down a bit but need to get it done now and once the gearbox is back in all the hard expensive work is done just mainly bodywork to do from then on :)

The final wee bits take up the most time!

Managed to get a 1225mm x 13mm belt from one of the motorist's shops but it just reached between the alt pulley nut and top of pulley so i've ordered a 1250mm x 13mm Dayco belt off ebay which should fit once it arrives :)

I used to have a passion for them but then they got trendy and folk started piling them high with bling and pretending they were off to conquer the outer reaches of Mongolia. Kinda lost interest at that point and wouldn't have a fifth, unless it was a three door RR with a nice lazy unfussed V8. I remember seeing my first one as young lad, and I've been hooked ever since. I think they were a whopping £2,000 at first, how much would an original set you back now? Dread to think.

Yeah i'm mainly using it to get me to localish beaches ( metal detecting / sea fishing ) roughly 100 mile radius from where i live and some light towing so just roading and not off roading as i've finished with all that now been there and got the T shirt :)

Dropped the gearbox and new High Ratio Transfer box ( HRTC ) kit off at D Beaumonts today, basically having the gearbox reconditioned and at the same time having the HRTC kit built up and fitted once the old transfer box has been removed so hopefully we will have it all back soon :)
