Easy. You obviously like VAG group motors, you want something with a bit of poke, and you do bugger all mileage: Skoda Octavia VRS, hatch or estate. Current model is 230hp, but on your budget you'll be looking at a bit older. Don't like the badge? - you'll have to pay considerably more for a Golf GTi or a Leon, and the Leon looks just so 'meh', ditto Golf estates. As for Audi, be prepared to bend over and hold your ankles when you visit the dealership.

Available in Diesel and Petrol, 2013 shape is nicer, but 05-12 shape is pretty much in your budget:

The trade adverts are a bit steep, you should be able to find a *really nice* private sale with reasonable milage for £8-12k.

Edit: you should be able to find something in the newer shape on that money:

I was wrong about the current petrol VRS being 230hp, it's actually 245hp.

Got a 2005 2.7petrol biturbo allroad, 120k when i bought it, paid £1500 18 months ago with 12 months MOT and recent service and not missed a beat, supposedly 250bhp but doesnt feel it as its a heavy car. If it blows up i will scrap it and find another. Downside is it does 20mpg if you go steady.

I have had 2 passat CC both dsg gearboxes 2ltr diesel versions , with out a doubt the most comfortable car I have ever driven the later one did 51mpg no problem had the earlier one 47 mpg loved them both loads of spec as standard that is unusual for a vw highly recommend you get a one with leather heated seats a dsg gearbox you will love it .
