Irish Border post Brexit

It was never an issue that anyone even thought of in the UK.

But given the way Varadkar has acted it's got everyone's back up in the UK.

I think Coveney is actually worse, heard him on radio today still wittering on about a potential return to violence if there is a hard border. Talk about stoking the fire.

The simple answer is no-one knows whether NI will be better or worse off after Brexit, just as no-one knows whether we would be better or worse off by remaining in the EU. What I am fairly sure of is that the EU and especially ROI will be worse off after Brexit.

So the motivation was not to improve one’s own prospects, but rather to damage that of others.

What did Varadkar do?

Varadkar + EU has opted for a hardline approach to Brexit potentially forcing the UK to stay in the EU indefinately.

Opting for a trade deal would have stopped all this animosity on day 1.

Rather than opting for the EU's 2.5 year muddle over a "Future Relationship Deal" .. it should have been trade talks and none of this BS political hatred.

What's involved in the "Future Relationship Deal"? is it things like exchanging information on terrorism, research on medical issues

Was there an option at the beginning to concentrate on trade deals first and then discuss the future relationship deal?

You'd have to be in the room to know.

The relationship deal is just wasting time .. terrorism and cooperation will change day to day based on circumstances .. just a Red Herring IMHO.

The UK keeps saying in this document and every day on the news that there is going to be no border, the only way the UK can do that is by staying in the EU, if the UK leaves it will be the UK that put the border there

Why would we want a border?
Everything that comes from the EU is acceptable to our standards.
Doubt there would be an invasion of non UK people via Eire either.
I mean. Who wants to come to what will be a third world country post Brexit?
They're leaving in droves already. Aparently.

This will sound harsh but hey I shall say it anyway. The reason for a hard border is to prevent chlorinated chicken reaching the folk of the EU 27. A very serious matter and I appreciate that this is worth the terrorism. Goodness knows how 350million USA citizens survive this chicken but hey such is life.

So to ensure no chicken I suppose hard border it is. OK then request the United Nations to install blue beret peace keeping troops along the border and further into Northern Ireland. If the Irish cannot help but commit atrocities against each other that seems to me as a person never ever been or even that interested in Irish politics to be the solution.

Cue outraged replies - the post is tongue in cheek as you all realise. But goodness from my place in Lincolnshire the whole thing seems somewhat bizarre.

Best wishes all.
