I've already Invested in a failsafe mechanism that will ensure I can comticon to farm post war, it has 4 legs and goes neigh, runs on grass (so I assume when the grass is irradiated it will become nuclear fueled?)
Have you any idea how many “ecu’s” there are on a modern tractor?
Starting with the obvious there’s usually an ecu for -
Engine
Hydraulics
Transmission
Chassis
And let’s not forget the dashboard
And that’s just a basic spec machine! A higher spec machine will have other ecu’s -
Cab
Climate control
Steering
Suspension
Scv’s
Performance monitor
Implement gateway for iso bus
Most will retail at around £1k each and the machine won’t run if one goes down!
If a machine/electrical device is turned off during a emp would it affect it anyway
What else is there to do on a Monday afternoon? Why are you all on about this is total rubbish
It’s not looking good is it. I think the old TM just has one, which I thought it would be worth having a spare for.
What does a chassis ECU do?
It’s not out of the norm to stock 6months of fuel on farm.
Not much good if you need to get away and the car, truck or van won’t run either.Well this has given me a good excuse not to update any of my tractors (or the combine) in the next five years!
IH 56 series and JD 50 and 55 series don't have any of this gubbins you're talking about!
Back to steam it is then.Basically man is not an island. No point stocking up on spare ECUs my friend if you have no diesel or kero left, because no lorries can run or depots operate. We’ll ALL be totally fudged.
Does the 55 have electronic lift control and the digital dash?Well this has given me a good excuse not to update any of my tractors (or the combine) in the next five years!

What happens if you’ve put your shiny new ECU from your lead lined safe on (remembering that most machines now have several ECUs anyway).
All good. Then there’s another EMP strike to clear up what’s left running a few days / weeks later....how many spare ECUs are you planning on holding and where are you going to get them from?
It’s a circular argument bud.
Whether it’s fuel or ECUs or flipping zombies or hungry buggers from town or whatever. Ultimately we’re all screwed.
Back to steam it is then.
When the shït hits the fan that sounds like a good ideaAre you smoking crack
If you’re fortunate enough to have a steam traction engine or two in the shed I supposeBack to steam it is then.
Agree! Any old Massey will suffice, and be cheaper than the ECUs!i don't think i've ever come across such a silly thread.....and i've tried very seriously to start some in my time
