The ferry company with no ferries might be stranded in a port that isn’t a port

The companies that actually going to provide this service are European. This lot were only engaged to give the plan(?) a fig leaf of Britishness. Having said that Grayling isn’t competent to oversee the transport system. Any train passenger can testify to that.

Exactly my conclusion, it was a front.

Lest we forget...

Note the tone of incredibility of the journalist's questions over and over again especially about the due diligence. Sounds like she did more background research on Seaborne Freight than Failing Grayling ever did and could tell that it was all going to end in tears...
Thanks for that. It does illustrate economy with the truth coupled with a fair degree of incompetence. If the ships had been available the ports were not.

Just saying.
Back in the day.
I did plenty of sub contract transport work for haulage companies that didn't own any trucks and whose owners probably wouldn't know what a truck was if they were surrounded by them on the M25.

The incompetence here is mind shattering. If you wanted a taxi home after a few pints I think you would agree that a taxi company with a car would be more likely to pick you up if they had cars or a contract with a person that had a car. This company had neither.

The old Ramsgate ferry ran for a few years to Dunkirk and was a budget affair. I cannot remember whether it carried heavy freight but the whole set up seemed a bit Heath Robinson.

Arklow Shipping say they only ever had 2 meetings with Seaborne Freight but never had any agreement with them or the DfT

Two other companies have contracts, one is Danish, I cannot remember the nationality of the other, but it is European, both are proper outfits with actual ships. Seaborne freight were only given a contract because the government found the prospect of eu shipping benefiting from their “no deal” planning embarrassing. Considering the embarrassing shambles which is brexit, I can hardly think it makes much difference!!

Once more info emerged I kinda assumed it was a bit of a scam by Ostend and the Irish ferry company using this seaborne freight front company to get cash in on the Brexit job to get a ferry service running again - possibly with a bit of sub, make the Ramsgate council dredge and upgrade facilities and all hidden by Brexit. But I am a cynical beggar. Hey ho. Anyhow looks to have sunk now.

I did not say or do I think that they should own the ships but the least they should have is a contract to prove they could supply the vessels which is now quite clear they did not.Trivago have a contract with the hotels for the supply of accomodation.

And these people we will be depending on to do our trade deals. I would not put them buying cat food. Sad thing is there are no sanctions for making a mess
The fault lies with the electorate. They swallow the slogans “strong and stable”, “take back control” etc hook line and sinker without questioning the competence of politicians.

It really is a non story.
Many of us have taken stock to market and seen the same thing happen in the bidding process.
The auctioneer will have a mate or two in the crowd to help the bidding along.
Some of us may of even had a whisper to stand forward ourselves.
Sometimes. One gets lucky and ends up with a bargain.
Sometimes. One gets dumped on and other arrangements have to be made.
Don't forget.
At the beginning of this process, quite a few companies were identified to take part in the bidding and three secured contracts.
At the very least. This whole process may well of been a reason for Dover and Calais to get their butts in gear and consequently announce that they were ready to take on the task ahead with minimal disruption.

Why on earth are you making apologies for such an incompetent ass as Grayling. If you honestly think this jerk is imaginative enough to conceive a plan that would make 'Dover and Calais get their butts in gear' you must be truly simple. Did you look at the website? Did you see the T & C text copies and pasted ('Do not pay for your meal until..') The man, like the government, is a joke and a disgrace
