Ive looked at a new Sip rake , a 7.5 mt model, they look like a good strong rake , they come with a two year warranty, how good are they. How do they hold their value compared to the class or krone of this world .

Would you buy one second hand?
I definitely wouldn't and I doubt many else would.
Stay with something proven surely?
Thought you were buying a Krone????

Let’s get the facts straight.

1. SIP were once very big OEM manufacturers and in fact built rakes and tedders for Krone along with products for others as well
2. SIP were the very first manufacturer to build a 2 rotor rake well before any of the contemporory brands EDIT - this was over 30 years ago but back then they only sold SIP branded machines in Southern Europe
3. SIP are selling worldwide especially N America and New Zealand.

So I think this goes some way to proving that the designs are “proven”. It’s just the name that you’ll get used to!

They have a very good importer in Farmec in ROI as well

It's between sip and krone , the sales rep for Sip is a neighbour and he's pushing me to buy one , if they are as good as they look I'd have no problem buying one , big name companies are known to make poor rakes too.

All manufacturers have their “not so good days”. Doesn’t matter who they are as you probably well know. Look at the other rake threads recently. Like I said, the SIP takes have a very good base and the older ones that I have seen in the UK have been ok. I did stumble across a small issue with 4 year old model sold by the previous importer in GB and when we delved deeper the factory “stood up”, took it on the chin and sorted it out for the customer

Name wouldn’t worry me in the slightest, branding clearly still does a wonderful job at persuading or deterring buyers simply based upon the image it creates.

Just because a company makes great sp harvesters doesn't really mean they make great rakes , I know plenty of tine arms to break and bend and fall off big name rakes .

Too be fair I think most people expect too much from their rakes irrespective of make, pushing on at 10mph in the crops we have in UK/Ireland not to mention often not the driest neither.

It may be totally unfashionable to say it but a gear or two less and take a hit on workrate would go a long way to save abuse.

Quite often you aren't taking a hit on workrate by going a bit slower, one of the most important jobs and most gangs I know put the steadiest driver on the rake. All the speed kings are on trailers.

SP gangs should have two rakes for the good days when a lot of stuff is getting floored and chopped - often they don’t and instead have the rake man running the country like a blue arsed fly trying to keep ahead, which is a pressured job, no doubt about it.

I bought a "big name" mower a couple of years back which I have been really disappointed with. I spoke to the manufacturer at Lamma and have been expecting a phone call but I fear I will be waiting a long time.

Seeing how proactive SIP and their dealer for this area are being I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their products. After all when you are building a brand you need to go the extra mile.

lifting the rake up in ruts goes a long way to longevity
and not rotary spring tine harrowing when moving grass

Dead right, but many just can’t stomach driving slowly. If you want to rake and drive fast, the mergers are the way to go.
