Stewardship Payments for 2018

Well March is here and apparently 75% of 2018 scheme year payments will be made this month! I fully expect to be let down by NE/RPA so be interesting to hear of anyone actually getting paid.

Got the round robin letter from RPA today .Two years late with the expected payment and they only expect that 95% of farmers will be paid.

Last week they sent me a threatening letter to make me pay back a £27 overpayment from 2016. They wanted interest if not paid immediately and suggested it would be put in the hands of a debt collector.

It all comes down to the lack of accountability, they hide behind they’re anonymous letters always quick to jump on you for the slightest error. They draw their fat wedge pay packets every month come what may, they have a gold plated pension to look forward to and when you ring up / email them about your money you are clearly being a hassle to them - please go away and chew some straw or something you oik.

I’ve had that email as well, can’t understand why they can’t just pay us. All our options are dead simple and I can see the bottom line figure on our paperwork which they should pay every 6 months.

I’ve actually lost track of how far behind they are now. But think they owe us for all of 2018 and wil soon start to owe for 2019 as well

Unlike our previous ELS scheme we are now putting serious sums of money into our Countyside stewardship scheme. NE/RPA need to understand that this isnt just your usual pay by the acre subsidy it’s a payment for real work done and real loss of production and should be prioritised.

I nattered at them and did get my 25% in December for 2017. To be fair mine isn’t a big sum of money in the grand scheme of things but would be better in my account than there’s.

I have pretty much given up on seeing any 2018 money till next year now!

Every time I ring I get an automated reply, " we are currently very busy, so cannot take calls regarding outstanding payments"
10k outstanding, not including 2019.

Half way through the month and still nothing paid here. Frankly I’m not expecting them to honour their commitment but it’s really “grinding my gears” this lack of payment especially looking at seed invoices that have just arrived for this years stewardship options.

It has occurred to me that stewardship payment will end up being over a year behind

It would be sensible for the Rpa to combine payment for the previous year and the current years advance payment
this will halve the work load and allow the Rpa to get up to date with payments within a year and save a considerable amount of administrative cost
I cannot see the civil service doing this as the system is run for the benefit of the civil service unions would be dead against savings in cost
