We use SAR and NDVI images from @Rhiza-UK

I'm not familiar with SAR, can you elaborate?

I have tried a program that make a map from NDVI images, but then i have to manually enter how much N i want in each zone. The maker say they just provide the tool, the agronomy side of things is up to me. My agronomist am not sure how we should apply it, to consistently get better results than flat rate. I won't touch it if i'm not sure it's better than how we use to do.

Then how is it decided witch area get how much N? Some say less biomass equals more N. Some say give a little less than average for the worst bits, considerably above average for the middel bit and least on the good bits.

There are agronomy models for OSR and wheat that decide the amounts based on the SAR and NDVI - I believe they work on higher rates from lower biomass in early applications and then lower rates later on but @Rhiza-UK would be able to answer that better and in more detail than me

I would need some serious persuasion to do that to my crop!
we have a very vociferous walking group in the village, who keep an eye on all the paths. If you don't do it, you get the council on your back. I had to drive through a 6 ft crop of maize once, with a mini digger .
The main reason i do it though, is it's a x compliance fail if inspected, and i don't want to loose 5% of my payment for the sake of a bit of roundup.

If I cannot line a tramline up with the path I don’t bother spraying either. If it’s used it’s kept clear, simple.
I agree, and there is a field where the tramline can be put exactly in the right place, but this field would be across short ground. It gives us ammunition to make people stay on the path and has worked in stopping folks wandering where they shouldn't

What do you do when spraying?

Put up signs?

How much N have you all applied so far ?

40 kg on wheat and oilseed rape. The small dose on the osr was because I wasn't sure how much would get past the flea beetle. Luckily, it all looks ok though is very stunted in places. The osr needs so more ASAP as it is growing quickly now but there's nothing I can do until it stops blowing a gale & raining every day.
