Petrol Cars

WLTP also means that every single configuration needs to go through testing eg add bigger wheels to a car complete new set of tests, etc (as far as I understand it anyway).

Petrol is definitely going to be the way forward until a viable alternative is available. Wouldn't be rushing to buy one at the moment though as some companies are trying to rush through to meet emissions etc.

The latest diesels are as clean as petrol and far more economical. What's more, synthetic diesel is now being produced from captured atmospheric carbon at around $1 per litre. What need is there to go backwards with batteries?

You really have to watch those card prices like a hawk though, because very often you will find them deducting more than local general pump prices.

I would agree with the above on such as UKFuels, KeyFuels etc who will try to lure you in with a "prospecting price" which they compare to national averages often including motorway services and can end up varying wildly week to week and even appearing as a higher price than posted at the pump where you draw fuel.

What you need is a price which is linked to the weekly wholesale ( PLATTS Rotterdam) price plus a fixed margin .

We have been using this system for about 5 years now and the only time I have seen pump price at a similar level has been when there is a local supermarket promotion war.

My regular discount from our local Esso station pump price is in the region of 5 to 6 ppl and I have known the discount compared to a Motorway Services station be as much as 20 pence per litre. (All prices are Ex VAT which is detailed in the bi-weekly invoice.)

If your regular routes take you past a Costco then that will be competetive.

Gti or Gtd For a 45mile round trip five days a week?

Diesel.

I bet the GTi wont do 35mpg unless you drive like a priest.

I would add there is no secret illuminati club deciding what the future of personal transportation will look like. If electric cars prove attractive to the marketplace they will sell. If biofuels work they will sell. If hydrogen cars work they will sell. Some companies have dabbled with LPG and CNG cars as well.

Its up to the consumer to decide going forward what they will use.

Next year I will probably buy the last car I ever drive with an engine.

None but those that shout the loudest have decided that that is the way we have to go.

Indeed, and those that shout the loudest have the budget to do the shouting and consider it an investment. Electric vehicles are nothing to do with saving the planet, they are all about money, ushering in disposable cars, getting a slice of the energy supply business, data rape of drivers and occupants etc. It's all out there for those that aren't blinded by the BS.

Diesel cars are finished

I bet in future years (once Brexit is done with) they will force them off the road via higher taxation and restrictions

Some towns are charging more to enter in a diesel in their lower emissions zones and also higher parking charges for diesels over petrol cars

Writing on wall for diesels I am afraid

I've found that cheaper fuels don't offer the performance. The thing to remember is that petrol is a mixture of various volatile liquids that match a certain set of criteria. It is not a universally standard product.

No, its sheer trendiness by those wishing to appear trendy rather than actually bother themselves with a few inconvenient truths for their egos. It doesn't have to be accepted. If said councils told you to jump under a bus would you do so?

Why people buy electric cars is irrelevant. Its consumer choice at the end of the day. I dont like macs but im not trying to claim its a plot to take over the world when they are sold.

Id have a model X right now if I had the cash.

It's not me you have to convince - I love a diesel car........................but it's HM Government, the Green lobby and scientists that you have to convince

Ultimately the 'dieselgate' scandal has tarnished diesel cars. beyond redemption !!!

Diesel cars WILL be forced off the roads by 2025 or sooner, firstly by stealth - higher taxation and levies, then an outright ban via the MOT testing, is my hunch

^^^^^^ This

The French and Italians always made fantastic small diesel family hatchbacks and at one time our Government even made diesel cheaper to buy than petrol plus the added fuel economy

Every decision is now made on urban folk who are too lazy to use alternative means of transport for commuting and the school run. They'd still be better off improving junction design , tackle utilities and other unnecessary road works and modelling new housing with suitable mass transportation options but of course that all takes more than one election term

So what will the farmer run around be then as I’m not sure there are any 4x4 Petrol alternatives other than some of the posh Chelsea tractors which don’t lend themselves to mud, dogs and bale string let alone pulling a stock trailer.

Commercial taxation diesel Pickup, I guess may be an option

HM Govt won't give a stuff if some Disco's and RR are off the road

I don't think they take farmers needs into consideration, when the Cabinet makes transport policy
