I’m fed up with the main high street banks so looking for an alternative that has firstly , a face to talk to, not just an automated digital whatever. Secondly, a bank that at least pretends to care.
Anyone with handlesbanken? They look like they might fit my bill but wouldn’t mind some first hand experience. Tia

I don’t mind paying for a service, it’s when you get charged for a service that’s not there. Obviously there is a limit. Clydesdale was one I was thinking of, you didn’t like them?

Million pound overdraft territory or there not really interested.
Also disappointed with my high st bank. Ist they do away with business manager, then i had a letter last week saying my overdraft is up for renewal, the figure they quoted is up 50% on what i paid last year. They have to be f ing joking if they think i am paying an increase like that.:banghead::banghead:

Tried them and they didn’t want to know.
On my property side I had 1 million debt with 2 million equity. I was after getting it all under 1 roof and at the time I wanted to buy a fairly high risk venture. I’m sure it would have been ok but they said no .
Asset rich cash poor :)

After being ditched by HSBC for no apparent reason, we asked Handelsbanken. They weren't interested unless we wanted to borrow or deposit a million, that kind of thing. I could have borrowed a million but paying it back was the stumbling block so they wouldn't have us either.

We ended up with Lloyds who actually have a local branch and a very very helpful real life business manager who welcomed us in and set everything up for us nay bother. Can't fault them.

That’s all I want, surely it isn’t to much to ask

So in the last month, pull up a chair;

Rejected a sizeable 5 figure sum cheque going INTO my account. The senders banks questioned it but was given permission to send it. It got cashed, money came in but then was removed. Got a letter saying cheque was not clear enough. No phone call to check it was ok. I would understand if it was going out of my account. Nearly cost me the cheque amount as struggled to get it re issued. Photocopy we took before sending was clear as can be. It wasn’t their policy to ring customer in these examples.

Lost a debit card. Rang the number on the back to request another. 1hr later, learn that they can’t find me on system. Been with them 15+ yrs, have over 10 accounts. Turns out the number I rang is for private customer. They couldn’t explain why the private number was on the back of the business cards..... they agreed life would be easier if it was. Anyway, new card ordered. Week later, I ring to ask where it is, they sent it to accountants offices. Asked to send it to me but couldn’t as I’m not on the system, even though they send me 5 debit cards to the my address every 3 yrs when the expire and have been doing so for ages....

Eventually they promise to send it to another local address where the statements go. 3 days later card arrived for me, but with an alien address not linked. Luckily postman had a guess and gave it to me.

Words fail me. Don’t go there!

I'd recommend Lloyds based on our experience. But maybe it depends on local personnel. Our business manager here circulates round the county but is excellent. Always answers the phone. Call centre is OK though only needed it once as do most stuff on line.
So you still have a dedicated business manager that call around once a year? I don,t and the charges are on the up.

I wouldn't recommend HSBC. They chucked us out because they couldn't verify our ID's. We couldn't resolve the problem because they couldn't or wouldn't tell us what the problem was. They shut our current account unilaterally but luckily i got wind of this and emptied it the week before.
