interested to hear other people’s views on this :-

We run a self propelled forager team in Yorkshire predominantly and we don’t charge extra for throwing the tyres on (providing they don’t take the p*ss) and just ask a brew for the lads while they do it (myself included) and one customer refused point blank and looks to be deal breaker if we insisted. The lads take their own food and drink but flask tea doesn’t usually stay warm til sheeting up time. Is it an unreasonable request?

It's not unreasonable, anyone can make a pot of tea. I'd expect to be fed if I was throwing tyres and not being paid for it.

It's certainly not unreasonable, especially when Yorkshire has the best tea in the country.

Silage gang allways get dinner here and a brew be it tea or a can after sheeting up.

I’ve had full 3 course meals on some farms, a 4 pack of beer for each driver on others, i’d Expect food to be supplied by the farmer or contractor at 8pm If working past 10pm. £20 tip each for an hours work but the tractors were off the clock then.

I did go to 1 farm and did a 6 hour sheeting job the next day and wasn’t even given a thank you. The farmer had asked us the night before, when we got there he said he had an emergency with a cow, we sheeted the whole pit, wall-wall tyres over it all which we had to dig out from 5’ high nettles, did a fantastic job of it and then when we went to tell the farmer we’d finished we saw him fast asleep in his kitchen - his wife said he’d been there all morning

we never went back there.

Just add a few quid per acre next year to the customer and be self sufficient with tea and food.
As said what does it take to just make a cuppa for the lads.

simple, just charge extra for sheeting, and get one of the WAGS to bring a really good takeaway and a big bucket of tea, timed to come when sheeting, all stop, have it in front of him, and dont offer any to him,
best bit is he is paying for it,

really pee'd me off this, 12 hours out of a bait box is long enough for anyone, one local contractor guy went home if he did not get anything between 6.00 and 8.00pm,
yet on the other hand, some went well over the top, with an in house sit down meal,

I was brought up to always offer a cuppa to anybody working at the house. Just a common courtesy as I see it.
I won't put myself out for somebody that doesn't offer me a cup of tea.

And yes we get the sit down meal in house some places and a sandwich/cake/drink sent out while on the job ranging to the above and another that went to shop to fetch himself a sand which and wouldn’t pick us anything up even if we contributed. Don’t think a hot drink is much to ask personally

Personally the money would be irrelevant, the fact that someone can’t put a brew on for a bunch of lads that have just done a full shift for them would be it for me.

I wouldn’t go the extra mile for someone that didn’t appreciate it.

I've seen a pattern of on the days the wife is on the rake we seem to get a bit extra than just a cup of tea. Maybe farmers like seeing a women throw tyres about!

We've had it a couple of time where the farmers just happen to be busy when it comes to throwing tyres. One occasion left their elderly dad to it. I had to remind him there would be a charge as we are helping with the sheet not doing it for him.

I would note that sheeting down is not something I insist on my wife doing. She just not the type to stand and watch.

Don't know of any contractors that cover pit up here.

Normally have a bbq tea about o'clock and everyone gets fed, When at silage.

I wouldn't want a cup of tea personally, I'm always dripping with sweat after covering pit. We just normally have a few cold beers after its done.
