Can you think of any right places we could buy one from?
I supply genuine iskra/mahle starters. Many to members on here. Not just for handlers but tractors too.
I was running a pop up add on here but I think that must have run its cause now?
If it starts every time when you hot wire the small solenoid terminal, I'm afraid its not the starter?
If it is please someone explain it to me?
The new starter might need less current to work the solenoid, leaving it look like a bad original starter?
You have a voltage drop on the small control wire for whatever reason.
But you know best, just a suggestion ............

By which time you will need a new solenoid as contacts will be burnt!nothing wrong with the starter motor. Too much resistance in the switch circuit and not pulling in the solenoid hard enough I would say. (just like mine and as usual just living with it until I have to tackle it!)
Usually just replace the end cap.By which time you will need a new solenoid as contacts will be burnt!
Utb, and its fiat relation were built to set themselves alight, with the fuel filters directly above the starter! When new, there was a deflector plate to run spilt fuel clear of the starter, but this made filter changes awkward, so was soon removed and placed in the bin.Just mentioning the fact that a high resistance in the starter caused a fire which consumed my late lamented UTB Admittedly the engine was covered with about an inch of chaff/dust/ diesel & oil leaks as well, but it certainly opened my eyes as to how a simple nuisance that you just put up with due to laziness can turn into something rather more
