Trek project one gives you the option of some very nice custom paint jobs, have a play with the website before you look at the price. Ribble do custom paint options. Orbea (really nice spanish bike) offer custom paint, I did look @mrs mtx and there is a very nice Fushia which would be just right for you. Next birthday sorted I think.:)

Amazing! I love my Birtha but her blue and black doesn’t overly go with all my pink kit!

Nearly come to the end of the bike search. Unless I went down Planet X route its really hard to see better value than a Giant to be honest. Full carbon, discs, 28mm tyres and 105 for £1550.

All the Yank makes (Trek, Spec, Felt, Cannondale) are dearer by about £3-400 for similar or slightly lesser spec and the Planet X/ Decathlon side of things are cheaper by a few hundred but not quite got the resale/ cred.

Having visited a few shops it does seem there are very few bad bikes around - or put it this way, the quality is excellent for what you can get

I did look at Rose but felt the £100 saving over bike shop and Giant wasnt worth it.

Lapierre I admit never heard of them
I want Carbon I think.

By the way whats the deal with Gravel bikes? I can't think of anywhere around here a gravel bike would be good - where do people tend to use them?
I use mine everywhere, did a road run last Sunday and my average speed was within 1mph pf my road bike, also used it on some fairly gnarly off road stuff, grip is excellent comfort not so mush but they are that light that they seem to cope well. They excel on bridleways and old railway lines etc.

Ah ok I missed that bit. £1500 will obviously get you a carbon bike but you may be sacrificing on the components at that price. Personally I would up the budget a bit or go for a good aluminium frame instead, this was the advice I was given when I was looking for a bike last year.

I was given the same advice, good Aluminium is better than poor Carbon.

I hear you. But from chatting away to bike shops I dont think there is a lot of poor carbon like there was when it was new on the scene.

I had my Rose in for a BB last week, picked it up Saturday morning, The bloke in the bike shop said 'Hope you're not offended but I have just had your bike out for a spin' It was his second outing on a disc bike the first one a carbon one, both gravel bikes/CX He couldn't get a feel for the Carbon one but loved mine, he weighed them and there was less than 4lb difference between them. I'm by no means trying to push Ali I have a Carbon Specialized Roubaix that is equally as good but has a poorer drive train and was twice the price.

I have 3 bikes,

1 x carbon planet X bish bash bosh with mudguards and rack for commuting with Sram rival hyd

1x Cervelo full carvon C3 including dura ace carbon wheels di2 ultegra and is known as the lean mean speed machine

1x Cube gravel bike thats aluminium frame with 105 hydraulic and two sets of wheels

Now lets leave the cervelo out the debate as its been a project and was built in memory of my Dad and will never be parted with as to build it again i would need to remortgage the house.

The other two being the bish bash and cube they are similar bikes in similar price brackets and their is little between them take the rack and guards off rhe bish bash and its a tad lighter than the cube.

The bish bash runs 32mm conti road tyres the cube 35mm knobblys to be honest there is little in itperformance wise on the commute i xan average the same, point being cheaper carbon and good ali are very similar, unless you go high end ali or titanium

There probably aint anything that falls into bad carbon bracket but there is certainly better carbon the Cervelo frame was 3k frame only its feather weight and flys on the road the ride is responsive and at times i can scare myself! Comparing it to the bish bash is like comparing a defender 90 to a supercharged range rover!! But the other two are very very similar.

Whats the fuss about gravel bikes well technically all mine are gravel bikes, they often have relaxed geometery for longer days in the saddle and have mounts for guards and racks.

My cube is the only one that may ever see gravel but it was a face book market place bargain that i have two sets of wheels for so i can off road it or sling the slkcks on for a winter sunday club run to save some miles on the commuter or sling the knobblys and trailer on and drag the nieces roynd rytland water. They really are a multi trick pony.

I bought from planet x when you could still visit their shop, thats now closed, ironically just before ribble opened the factory outlet,

The other customisable british brand to look at is Dolan

As for custom colours dont even get me started i spent 3 months are far to much money getting my wife a bright frame bike with the spec she wanted!!!
