Just had a proper read of the bulletin - it’s coming across as a bit more than just a simple frequency change ;)

The way it reads is that a firmware update will (in all probability) be required to use the new frequency. Is this due to the encrypted nature of the new beam?

Is Trimble moving RTX correction to the newer generation of Inmarsat satellites in Europe and also encrypting the new beams?

Yes....most of those SW versions have actually been around for a few years now or the SW version was there at launch so all displays/receivers shipped would have at least that version.
My guess is most units in the field have that version already.

Most user interfaces will let you enter the new frequency using the “custom” input so no software update is required!

Impacted devices and update instructions
All Trimble RTX and Trimble xFill compatible devices are affected by this change. A complete list of devices and instructions for the firmware updates and device configurations that you must complete are listed below.

Please note, customers that are using Trimble RTX corrections via IP are not required to do anything to continue using Trimble RTX.

There are two ways to receive RTX signal:

- via satellite
- via IP (internet protocol) e.g. using a modem

In the case of a modem the RTX correction data is downloaded from the RTX servers via a modem.

In the case of via satellite the RTX servers beam up the correction to the satellite and then it is broadcast via the satellite frequency to the vehicles in the field. So anyone using this method will need to tune to the new satellite frequency.


To be honest, not many people will be using a modem because, in addition to the subscription you have the extra cost of the modem

ive seen a video where this is today.
Wait too hear by my installers if mine needs to be tinkered with or not.
