I’d agree it’s not a highly profitable job, mostly because every man and his dog has a round baler and is happy to do a bit of extra work with it, but unlikely to be losing money at £3.

The bit I can never work out is people going and doing little jobs and charging the same as a couple of hundred bale jobs
I now charge a minimum to hitch up and leave the yard if the jobs not big enough to make a decent profit

A Fusion loses £1 a bale in the first year or 2, other baler/wrapper combinations lose up to £1.50 but a stand alone baler shouldn't be losing £1 a bale unless it's an undesirable brand that's been abused and neglected

Second hand slurry tankers used to be a £1 a gallon second hand years ago as a average dealers have their tricks of the trade

My McHale will be 7k to get it taken away now.
So for horsey customers make them 3’6 and charge a fiver they would be pleased as punch as they would be easier to handle

Quite surprised about round baling costs . We have our own baler but when under pressure get someone else in . There are 2 that I would call on first one charges £2.20 and the other £2.40 . They always have plenty of notice so that they can factor it in and one or other will always come .

If I was in your position and could 200%rely on them it would be cheaper for you to use them
Measure your fuel in next time your baleing and cost your net just those two costs and see how close you are

We charge £4.50 for over 100 bales and £5 under 100 bales there could be additional costs added also
Only do outside work to have convince of machinery’s to do our own when we want there’s no fortunes at those rates I don’t know what others charge in the area and don’t fuxking care that’s what we charge

60p for net. £40 hour for tractor. Average 40 bales per hour with travelling etc £1 per bale. 60p depreciation. Gets to your £2.20.
