Does anybody still do this, and is there a alternative. Got a old farm building i want to tidy up by whitewashing the insides of the walls.

I do the outside of a couple of stone built barns in my yard. Did them this spring with a 50/50 mix of snowcrete and hydrated lime, this looks great and lasts a lot longer than lime only. Look past the tractor and you'll get an idea.

funny you should say that we going to try spraying this time when we get chance ! we brushed it on last time it covered really well . I got one of them ebouer sprayers from screwfix think it was about £ 50 but not tried it yet !

There's a old machine on farm, with a tank and electric motor for applying it through a lance, Left by previous tenant. Someones cut the wire off it so presume it doesn't work.

We mix it in an electric concrete mixer and make it really thick, pea soup, then apply it with a floor brush out of a painters bucket. Last coat did 12 years.

I put a bag of lime in an empty cattle trough with a couple of pints of clean engine oil and about a pint of PVA or SBR, whatever is nearest. Then mix with the pressure washer, keeping the nozzle down in the lime so there are no splashes. Just keep the washer going while mixing and you'll make a really good creamy mix to apply with a soft floor brush.
Keep the brush close to the wall while you apply to avoid covering the ground with wash.

you can get spray guns with large funnel on the top so gravity fed it works well, stir with electric drill with large mixing rod on. only about £20

I wouldnt spray it on. You can do a huge area in a short time with a broom

In the old days stables were always white at the top black at the bottom. The top is white wash what did people use for the black?

What does the engine oil do for it? Never heard that one.
All I know is that it makes the finish more durable. Definitely lasts longer on the walls in an exposed location and makes the wash more creamy and easier to apply.
