Anyone finish Organic Angus for retailers?

Looking at options and wonder how being on contract works? Is there a minimum order, do they specify when they need stock and do you have to take them to the abbattoir.

Only got 6 steers - Organic grass fed Angus be ready around September.

Waste of time taking to market. Looking for options for next year too.

What weights do you aim for? Waitrose/M&S what about other options?

I think you will need a lot more than 6 steers to get a contract!

Most of the contracts want at least an artic load a week if not more!

Your best bet is to find an agent that can deal with organic stock deadweight.

I sell my Organic fats through local co operative , I sell 2- 3 at a time some go to M+ S . They need to be farm assured as well as Organic + M+S audit on top .
2 going today 409p/kg , Don't send them market!
Mine are Beef Shorthorns target weight 300-330kg at 18-22months grass only.

Kepak at Methyr kill organics every week. Are you farm assured?

Yes farm assured & SA are the same now.

As @unlacedgecko says and what I meant you can have it couriered the entire length of the country
Maybe @Jerry could give you a tip or two as he is doing it successfully

Thanks for your enthusiasm in direct sell we did it for 6 years I would list all the pitfalls of this business its not a profitable venture at all. Its no longer unique and competitive market. Meat boxes require a pretty decent capital investment to sell the the top end. By the time you've done this thats any profit gone for a number of years
