Here's an idea for a home made bench.....
you couldn't argue that it wouldn't be solid at least...
Big steel when its that size, you wouldn't see it too often, as you say, it would of made some bench..Was at a local fabrication place couple years ago and they had some offcuts of UBs or columns leftover from a pile driving project, they were about 6-700mm square ish and apparently weighted nearly 500kg per meter! I said at the time they would do some ideal benches or front weight blocks!!!
if they were in good nick they werent dear even at that price, but if they didnt sell i wonder what the reserve was...Was at a machinery sale a couple of weeks ago nice big steel bench @ 10’x3’ made £250, a couple of lots later was 4 x 8’x4’x1” plate thaught it would make great bench tops didn’t sell at £400
