Every time you hear about the 4000 series it seems to be the 4220. Has anyone bought or seen a 4190 or 4160? Also how comfortable are they when ruts or rough roads are jolting the cab sideways?

I’d be surprised if they sold any 4160’s, quite a lump of a tractor for 160hp, and they lack a few things that the bigger 2 have such as double callipers etc.

I ve been looking at second hand 4000 series and have seen a couple 4160 s but they are on smaller wheels and down speced. Not seen a single 4190 the last 6 months.
There is over 30 4220 s advertised as of last night .

Just been through the proses of buying a jcb 4220 got told that tge smaller hp models don’t have double acting suspention , double disc calipers on each rotor , led lights , leather interior, field package ( what ever that is anyway) ,
Plus they only bring the 4220 into nz so they wouldn’t stock parts over here for them. Could have just been a quick talking salesman with some of the limitations to the smaller hp model just to sell a higher hp tractor who knows. But it worked for him ‍♂️

I had thought that the smaller ones wouldn't be powerful enough.
How comfortable are they though??
Unreal how comfortable they are ya don’t get the wallowing like ya do in a standard tractor ya hit a pothole in a normal tractor it throws ya around in the cab where as a Fastrac ya get a little bit of movement in the cab. But just getting the power to the ground in heavy draft work it doesn’t get power hop or anything like that. Very under rated tractor over this side of the world. My thorts anyway probably be some one disagree with what I’ve just said

Yesterday I jumped in a jd6930 to run it 5 miles to drop a trailer of wheat, dropped that back to field and jumped in the 4220 and wow. What a difference. No comparison when it comes to comfort. They absorb rough terrain instead of you being thrown around. From what I gather on the less HP they are also lower spec as standard. Not sure the 160 comes with the vario box. Think it’s more like the ptronic.

4160 still has the CVT gearbox, the main differences are the wheels and single caliper brakes, also lower lift capacity, but these can all be upped to higher spec.

Had one on demo for a day, had it along every bumpy road I could think of, you still know the bumps are there but it smooths them out rightly, a lot better than a normal suspended tractor. Also unlike other tractors the tractor feels planted and far more in control over bad bumps.

High £50 k is lowest I ve seen but will have 5/6 k hours and be first generation, no warranty left.
£80k will get you 2k hours/ 2 years old probably with remaining 3 year warranty and £90k will be around year old with warranty. Not sure of brand new price at mo but guessing £110 - 115 on farm. Quite a lot of ex demo / 6 months old for high £ 90 k s.

Really wish we could get them here in South Africa. So far all research shows that it would be the best fit to spread a lot of fertilizer with. Exchange rate kills us trying to bring them in secondhand. To make it worth while we can only spend about 90-94000 pounds.

We have had one carting grass for most of the summer and they are not up to much, they pull like a MF 6480 with a lot less wheel grip , they are not for us , 3220 would walk all over the 4220 we have had in every way possible

Have heard similar from two other people who came away unimpressed. Cost of them is also off the chart nuts, one quote was dearer than a Fendt with every bell and whistle ticked...

Absolute rubbish, had a 3220 and a 4220 demo in same field on a Trio and the 4220 was more comfortable and pulled the Sumo faster and with less spin. Add in the 4 wheel steer and it was a lot more productive.

ask any of our lads and they will tell you to keep your 4220, we had it on trailer work only and it was not good at it at all

A R Cramphorn said the same when they first came out and they ran about 10 3000’s. They’re all 4000’s now. Maybe the software was different in the one you had??
