Blood Donating....

Does anyone know the full recovery time after donating?
I get to give blood whilst in work time when they come to the hospital. I’ve booked my slot for April 29th, but now realised the marathon i am running is on the 5th of May?
I usually feel fine after a few hours but obviously running 26 miles is a bit different. I’d rather not cancel as I struggle to get to the other locations with no childcare
Google says....
It's best to wait 24 hours. Drink plenty of fluids during this rest period. When you do your first run after donation make it a short, easy one, just to see how you feel. Bear in mind you won't get your best performance within two or three weeks of donation.

Ye that’s my worry, be a bit late to see how I feel once it’s done :nailbiting: fingers crossed it will be ok!x

As I have written before, I hate to be anonymous - not my style - but one client would find me quite easy to identify should they try to so I have no choice.
But for this I am pleased to be anonymous.
I am now on 54 or maybe 55 donations. It's so easy, so painless and though it shouldn't it does make me feel that I can do something that might help anonymous others.
Biscuits are great too!

We have "posh" reclining bucket seats to help prevent such.
They often struggle to find a suitable access point so my tolerance is possibly "higher" than average.
Blood is also 6% heavier than water...think of the weight loss. :)(y)
I don't know why I did last time I'm not scared of blood or needles. I was in a reclining chair and it just came over me like a wave. Mother in law says she was the same but if she has a meal before hand she is fine so I'll try that. Apparently it's something to do with your fight or flight response getting confused because you are losing blood and your body assumes you are hurt or something.

Well I learned something today. Some people aren't suited for giving blood and I might be one of them. Was fine till right at the end and then went a bit light headed and turned white I'm told. Had to sit down for ages before they would let me leave :sorry:
Really nice nurse doing the needling was a farmers wife and was telling me I probably should eat something before going as well as not overdoing it right before going like I did because I was in a hurry to finish and get there on time. Apparently being tired and not eating for hours while doing a physical job before going can make light headedness worse because it lowers your blood sugars. No one told me that :sorry:
So now I have one more go at it and if it happens again I won't be allowed to give again. Was advised not to go when I'm tired or been working too hard that day. And to make sure I've eaten and drank plenty before going. So that's 4 things I didn't do very well today that could have caused it or at least made it worse. Will try again and see how it goes. Would be pretty annoyed with myself if I won't be allowed to do it anymore :poop::(

Thats a bit of a bugger, maybe plan the food/workload a bit better??
I broke my record by filling the bag in 5m 50s..... :)
The staff were great and the array of biscuits, crisps etc has expanded again!

Took me the whole 15 minutes there was a kink in the pipe luckily I spotted it just before the end and I filled the bag before time was up.
Yes I think that's what I'll have to do next time. Thinking about it last night I don't think I had drank enough yesterday. Manhandling sheep in quite warm sun all afternoon and I didn't have anything to drink until I got to the donation place at 6.30.
Was a bit stupid on my part but I didn't think and was in a hurry to finish to get there on time. Will book a later appointment next time and make sure I have proper food and plenty to drink before going.
They were keen to have me back though which is encouraging. I didn't think they would want me back after last time :sorry:

How the hell do find out where it goes?

NHS Scotland doesn't do this and also I learned that the blood isn't put into a central bank.
If NHS England was short and NHS Scotland had extra then it is bought and sold. Which I find quite surprising and a tad disappointing
