Thinking of trying a few on a field we need to drain in the autumn after harvest.
Which are best, late sown winter or springs sown in spring, as it’ll probably be too wet in between, and which come to harvest first?
The field has quite bad Italian rye grass in the 2nd wheat at the moment.

Winter planted in autum or winter planted in the spring always used to grow wizzard now on tundra planted end of oct
averaged 2.25T/Ac pre em kerb and one fungicide always cut beans before the wheat normally on a damp day so they don't shed out

Notill spring beans April planted after a cover crop and a layer of chopped straw from previous crop full ground cover with no light getting to the soil
Glyphosate in February and just before beans emerge and plenty of seed

What drill do you use and what depth would you place the seed?

gd
but the drill used makes no difference
plant when conditions are good enough for the system if it is too wet waiting is never a bad thing as weeds are later just increase the seed rate

notill beans can be harvested one day and wheat planted the next if conditions are dry enough
if it is too wet never push it currently too wet for any land work here
with the wet in 2012 it was better to plant in april 2013 than any time from july 2012 to march 2013
I do not plant winter beans because in a wet year they breed black grass and cost more to grow for the same yield

Do you desiccate your beans before harvest?
