Pretty impressive that the was no fire, and nobody was killed. Perhaps a sensible reminder why you shouldn't build airports in areas where large flocks of birds congregate, such as a manmade island on the Thames Estuary

Doesn’t look like the pilot really had time to be much more than a passenger! Only by good design or good luck was there a clear space to come down without impacting anything. There wasn’t enough altitude to make any course corrections!Video showing the take-off and initial bird strikes

I suspect that there was a lot of skill involved in controlling the plane to make such a safe landing, but I'm not a pilot. I certainly wouldn't suggest the pilot was a passenger - I suspect he had control of a lot more factors than you would imagine.

there would have been one hell of a lot of skill in bringing that plane down safely
