Video showing the take-off and initial bird strikes

and the crash landing too.

Pretty impressive that the was no fire, and nobody was killed. Perhaps a sensible reminder why you shouldn't build airports in areas where large flocks of birds congregate, such as a manmade island on the Thames Estuary .

Doesn’t look like the pilot really had time to be much more than a passenger! Only by good design or good luck was there a clear space to come down without impacting anything. There wasn’t enough altitude to make any course corrections!

I suspect that there was a lot of skill involved in controlling the plane to make such a safe landing, but I'm not a pilot. I certainly wouldn't suggest the pilot was a passenger - I suspect he had control of a lot more factors than you would imagine.

there would have been one hell of a lot of skill in bringing that plane down safely
Just after takeoff is one of the most dangerous parts of the flight
Not really enough airspeed to have full control.
Yes lucky to have the fields available but landing it safely is another thing all together

At least fill the gap in between the hook end and the latch housing so your well worn eye can't jump out! The hook ends are eye wateringly expensive, but better than the consequences of an unexpected parting of implement and tractor.
