Spring barley Concerto was battered by a very heavy thunderstorm about ten days ago and went from green to ripe in about a week with extensive brackling .After a breezy sunny day today after overnight rain we cut a small field in the late afternoon at about 21%. Will try again tomorrow if it stays dry overnight as its extremely fragile now.
We are twelve days later in starting than last year. This year is about our average date to start.

Got second cut silage wrapped up about four days ago with more bales than ever for a second cut. Have nearly enough now for two winters.

Tricky but far from a disaster. If we don't cut for a fortnight then it will come into disaster category.
Some fields have a lean with patches down. Occasional field is flat.
Odd combine getting stuck but most travelling OK.
Have been in much worse situations in mid August - a dry 10 days will see alot of work done.

Over in Denmark right now. NE Jutland. Wheat fields half cut, straw in the swath everywhere, very few bales. Many steam rolled. Very black looking. Picture just as grim here. And still raining...

How is quality of wheat and malting barly in Denmark ? It soon bad here in Sweden with all showers we have every day!

Similar story over here in the west, most spring barley only just ready now, but bits of 2nd / 3rd cut to do, quite a lot of wholecrop, and reseeds to do.
Topping and fertiliser this weekend, trying not to make a mess, ground getting soft now,

As you say 2 dry weeks would get a lot done, but this week doesn't look promising.

I've had sprouted canola ( the windrows actually floated in floodwater, but we were able to pick them up once the water went away. Just green slime under the windrows ) in the past. I was able to sell it, but only into the stock feed market. It was sh!t . . .

Got going again anongst laureate spring barley. Yield metre showing 3.6t/acre which would be a record for us.

570 in its 14th season. Running sprayer flotations on rear.
