Fight fire with fire ?

Whilst I support the principles involved, I fear the message is based on an awful lot of misinformation. You will struggle to buy a pork sausage that contains only the ingredients listed.

Taking the beef sausages (produced by a popular Scottish butchery) my wife bought the other day out of the freezer, I note the following ingredients ...

Beef,
Water,
Wheat Flour,
Calcium Carbonate,
Niacin,
Thiamine,
Ammonium Bicarbonate,
Pepper Extracts,
Soya,
Beef Flavour,
Spice Extracts,
Phosphate Stabiliser,
Sodium Metabisulphite,
Flavour Enhancer,
Dextrose,
Antioxidants,
Nicotinamide,
Colourings.

Better off not eating sausages at all, as they (like a lot of meat "products") are ridiculously unhealthy. But then so was the wine I had last night, and the coffee I'm drinking now. The bacon I had on Friday was basically industrial waste as well.

The trouble is, these things are also terribly tasty and so I'm happy to indulge once in a while. I'm not willing to regress to living like a medieval savage just to appease a few witless degenerates.

You sound like a vegan the way you witter on about shite

Frankly who cares ? Aim is to make people think about what they are eating and where it comes from

I bet most vegans have never even given it any thought ! Or woulda be horrified to learn that quorn contained palm oil and eggs

It’s a headline not a phd ! And that’s all most people care about these days and exactly what we are up against when people say stuff like “cows are responsible for climate change “ etc
More often than not , a vegans conscience only goes as far as the supermarket shelf. That said the level of indoctrination of vegans is quite fascinating as they are quite defensive should you attempt a rational discussion.

I use a local butcher that I trust, I supply the steer that has had considerable time and care during its lifetime, so sausage with no additives or chemicals added, what more could you possibly desire?

Processed food is processed food.

I remember a situation where eggs were vilified by "Scientists" and the medical fraternity. Only for decades later for eggs to be given the all clear .. A whole food has both positive and negative parts that balance each other out.

My guess is you're wholely invested in an ideology.

As I say processed food is processed food. Man made food created by combining chemicals has never proven to be healthy.

Again you know this .. any farmer knows this, anyone that eats the food they grow knows this .. but you're invested in something where you're willing to throw out the baby with the bath water.

How you can use the word "Lies" in combination with these posts .. btw EXACTLY the same situation with Butter .. vilified to create Margarene sales, which is literally plastic.
Never ate margarine after smelling the van den burgh factory at port sunlight, smelled like an old diesel engine!

Most meat products don't have to be unhealthy at all. If they are, it's simply down to that fact people are loathed to pay for quality. We always make own sausages usually once a year and the only additional ingredients are breadcrumbs and some spices.

Somebody said earlier about a calf being de-horned on a vegan site and they were making out that they were taking a sample out to see if it was ready to eat, that's the sort of thing I was on about a few posts ago. In comparison, do you not think you are nit picking a bit?

Exactly. The time for being sanctimonious and taking the moral high ground has long passed. These people mean to finish livestock farming by ANY means, fair or foul.

This is something I posted on another thread about manufacturers appropriating the term 'milk' to sell fake industrial 'knock offs' to gullible consumers following foodie fads. Why are the Advertising Standards Authority, Food Standards Commission and NFU not shouting about this from the rooftops FFS?:

From the Alpro Oat 'milk' website:
INGREDIENTS
Water, OAT (10%), Chicory root fibre, Sunflower oil, Calcium (Tri-calcium phosphate), Sea salt, Stabiliser (Gellan gum), Vitamins (Riboflavin (B2), B12, D2)

So it's somehow allowed to be called Milk, when in reality it's an emulsion of water, oat flour, fibre, vegetable oil and salt. The next 2 are interesting as Gellan gum should be labelled as E418, and tri-calcium phosphate which should really be labelled as E341 but that doesn't sound very 'vegany' does it, so perhaps Alpro forgot:poop:(n)
Mmm!, all the fake dairy goodness of a product every bit as synthetic and 'corporate' as Coca Cola.

But what do I care, it's all great for the oat market :D

We have been genuinely looking into small scale oat milk production as a dairy free milk substitute. £2L at our local shops. As the deeper you delve into it's nowhere near as simple as oats, and water. Easily 10-15 separate ingredients, things like actual milk protein.

Son has this Oatly oat drink instead of milk as it gives him the squits!!! It’s promoting the carbon footprint of it now. I don’t think it’s carbon footprint would look so good if it compared it by nutritional content.
