When I ran a wheel digger,my avatar infact I had a call from lynch who are a huge London firm wanting me to be on standby in Norwich when a lot of snow was expected.i told them what I wanted money wise adding a bit to my normal rates as it was mainly night time and weekend work and they wanted to pay less than half and way below my normal rates.needless to say I done nothing.big companies are allways keen to take you on till you want paying.then they want copies of insurance certs, drivers cards etc and then find every excuse not to pay.i was cross hired to work for British rail by Balfour Beatty about 20 years ago.done the work and sent the bill with all reference numbers etc.called after a month asking to be paid and then the fun began.i heard every excuse under the sun and called weekly for months.eventually I wrote a letter to the managing director and finally got paid.this was when I was first starting out on my own.was only a few hundred pounds too.its no wonder these massive firms are worth a packet because they don’t pay their bills and owner operators have little hope of getting paid either.id never work for a large company again
