Aldi the same . Very pro British and not afraid of publishing it on ads and packaging

I was out working a few weekends ago in Barnsley

Impressive carvery at night yet none of the staff could tell me the country of origin of any of the 5 meats. One carver just thought it hilarious that anyone would ask and took the pee

Sums up the general publics attitude to food and farmers.

As long as it's cheap and tasty they don't care where it comes from?

Sorry TripleSix, this won't be a popular reply I expect, but ordinary working people only will care about cheap and tasty and don't feel they owe us a living. Sorry if you didn't mean it as a criticism of the general public but I don't feel they are to blame

Just walk out Jeremy - they need to be taught a lesson and we as consumers have plenty choice here in the UK.

Some time ago I ordered a meal from '5 Guys' in St Vincent St, Glasgow. Went to pay and noticed that the potatoes were advertised as from a specific county in England, so I asked if the beef was from Britain -"yes, of course it is, in fact it's Irish". I cancelled the order there and then, and have never been back.

According to Tesco, the focus groups suggest that country of origin is important to consumers, but for many, it is less inportant than the price positioning - this changes with the economy. Provenance was very inportant pre the 2008 crash, but consumers abndoned this as they had less disposable income.

Take the knife off the little prat, as he is clearly too much of a moron to be trusted with one, and carve a few slices off him.
