The shame of the English

Just saw an apt and very sad comment on Twitter> 17 years after the Tories were outed as the Nasty Party, Britain is now rapidly becoming the nasty country.

Ye,but why are you so concerned about being just England? If you’re the all powerful part of the uk then shirley you’ll be fine on your own?

Why should I give those who chose to slander my nationality any credance .. I couldn't give a rat's bottom what you want .. you ain't getting any support EVER.

I think I'd agree - about calling myself British. (Though these days I'd rather tick the 'prefer not to answer' box given the way this country has been behaving.)

And what way has this country been behaving in your opinion?
Where to start? For a start with a deep-seated sense of exceptionalism and the sense that 'they' (insert name of any group/nation/organization) should do a)what 'we' want and b) the way 'we' want it.
A deep-seated arrogance and sense of innate national superiority - again, insert pretty much any of a huge number of expressed attitudes such as 'we'll treat the EU citizens here as bargaining chips (that example of the British sense of fair play first appeared within weeks of the referendum result). Also an apparent ignorance of the fact that the EU (whisper this bit) can actually understand what we say and read the vitriol and confrontationalism that fills the medium with disbelief and disgust; and yet they still treat us with a respect almost totally lacking on our side. That goes some way towards explaining what I meant.

English.

British is a none descriptive generic word only slightly better than "European".

I suppose that one can only be beaten by saying "I come from Earth".
Anyway, why does it matter so much. The only important thing is how you behave and treat other 'people from Earth' - or anywhere else come to that. Obsessing about nationality is pointless. The next step from that obsession is obsessing about the purity of that nationality.

So point out exactly where any of this cr@p is apparent in any of the UK's side of negotiations.

Alternatively ALL of what you've posted is relevant on the EU side.

The short answer is 'crap' but as one example the 'treat EU citizens as bargaining chips' came straight out of the starting blocks

Tell that to the Scottish.
Tell that to the Welsh.
Tell that to the Irish.
Tell that to the French, Germans, Russians, USA ..

Purity ?

So what Purity do the USA have ? or the Chinese ? or Russia ?
