Snap! We were establishing the MGA cover crop trials Monday & yesterday with our new GD on a Caddy. Thunderstorms on Monday when the video was taken made it rather wetter than we would like, but it went well yesterday. Calibrating for 12 different mixes meant we soon got the hang of calibration

Our first attempt at direct drilling osr in to spring barley stubble, trash caused a few issues but overall pleased with the results after it had been rolled.

Weaving sabre tine, struggled to close some of the slots on the tougher patches of ground but looking better now it was rolled today

Thought I'd venture into this section with my dabbling into no till with my pimped CO4.
Metcalf points drilling rape and liquid N&P into chopped spring barley straw.
Wondering if I've pushed the boundaries to far with the amount of straw about but time will tell.

Kings vetch/buckwheat/linseed/berseem clover/phacelia mix broadcast into the standing crop of wheat in late July by a pneumatic fertilser spreader. Crop cut and straw chopped a week later.

Drilling FSS undressed Graham today into knee high sunflowers, buckwheat, phacelia, linseed and berseem, drilled after OSR on July 28. A bit too wet really, and I gave up once I got tired of unblocking the drill. Will have another go tomorrow and then spray it with glyphosate + pre em ASAP.

Here's what it looks like now, complete with terriers for scale.

Unfortunately when the gap between seed broadcasting and combining is wider the establishment rate is much lower. This was cut 3 weeks later.

Farm saved Campus seed sown 23rd August by a Claydon Hybrid drill into a baled spring barley stubble. Rolled twice.

Did a fair job considering. Just sheeted up before last nights / today’s and tomorrow’s down poor. Headlands not much cop tho.

Extase drilled into linseed stubble 14 days ago.
Clover understorey still alive, but with a bad hangover from 3l Glyphosate + 0.6 generic Liberator.

Our cover of red/Crimson clover, the plan had been to drill with wheat this Autumn, no chance now so I think I will leave it until autumn 20 and try and grow a very low input crop.

Is it not dry under that?
Anywhere I've got good cover is lovely under the surface, none needs long to dry.

No, after 180mm in the last 3 weeks its very wet under all that cover.

Wheat going in after oats with contractors Sumo strip till machine. 3rd year of going down this route at home and the ground is noticeably firmer under foot and more traffic-able.
