Now I really like the look of these , they have been mentioned on here before there are good few videos of them on the net now and they look good and they could be genuine option in the future , no doubt they will be at the premium end pricing wise but they seem very well designed .

This crew, https://gbauto.com.au/ make them and also hilux’s. Apparently costing 200,000 AUD with a range of a measly 200km. Wouldn’t get you far in The outback, might be good for going to the shops and getting the groceries. On a more useful note, may be handy on a mining site where they were designed for.

Boy that is ugly !!! maybe the panel lines on the bed indicate you could replace them easily if damaged that could be a saving grace .

Tesla launching usually equals "announcing" and that it will be a further 3 to 4 years from delivery . No doubt also super expensive also but Ravain has it on styling looks for a EU market I would say.

The big names Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi etc will be along with EV models soon surley maybe at more cost effective pricing but the Ravian seem to have re thought out the concept no transfer box 4 ,motors more storage different frame etc , I suspect the big names first attempt will be slap a motor and battery an existing model , that should be more cost effective you would assume.

By the time they get to the uk with the 180kwh battery in they will be nudging 85k+
But if you can get the VAT back it will be on my shopping list for a family vehicle.

Currently if you go shopping with a pick up there’s no where to store it with 5 passengers unless you have a rear canopy.

With the Rivian you can carry stuff in the front compartment.

And in the full width compartment between the rear seats and the load bed - takes surfboards. They have shown off a camper version

Tesla pickup....they’ve been on about it for years. There are literally hundreds of “designs” on the internet. Let’s see what concept they reveal on the 21st...

The 4th image below is apparently the only teaser they have ever revealed.

The problem with retro’s is your trying to cram a pack where none was ever designed, so the range is minuscule and the chassis dynamics are no good because the weight is carried too high up.

All the successful ‘clean sheet’ designs opt for a “skateboard” approach where the pack is the lowest thing in the vehicle and it doesn’t interfere with packaging or dynamics as much.

I love the concept, but it has been just that so far. Albeit they have lasted longer than the average EV start up.

Auto manufacturing is a tougher game than many expect. Just ask Elon Musk.

I just hope Ford can help them with production - it would be a shame to see them wither and die. We need more innovative, forward looking auto makers. Unfortunately as with any other industry you can’t expect true innovation from the incumbents. You need to look for the crazy new guys with the bright (and crazy) ideas.

A Tesla pickup would be great. You could put all your bonfire rubbish in the bed and not have to drive it anywhere and unload it, it'd torch itself on the spot.

Amazon were an early investor in Rivian too at $700 million.
There are advanced plans for a fleet of delivery vans using the same skid unit.

Both Ford and Amazon have invested some fairly large sums into Rivian and Ford basically use them to design all their electric models, so unless something very unfortunate happens I'd say Rivian is not going anywhere.
