Which LASER Office Printer / Copier / Scanner A4 + A3??

Looking for the above, we have an Epson WF7620 Inkjet which has been pretty good though playing up a bit now and wonder if we'd make some ink savings etc by going to a laser printer, the inkjet's graphics weren't brilliant so can't see a laser being any worse? Thanks

A4 colour lasers with multifunction scan etc are basically at giveaway prices.

A3 starts to get a *lot* more expensive with lasers, as they tend to be “workgroup” office printers rather than personal/low volume units.

think I picked up my last A4 multifunction colour Lexmark for something ridiculous like £85 from memory.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything "Brother" sell in the printer line . Their colour laser printers are good - not as good as a dedicated inkjet , but still very acceptable . Try "Printerbase " if you need a supplier 0800 170 7234 - they often have good offers on selected items . Next day delivery too .

Best bet (unless you have very deep pockets) would be to look on ebay for second hand A3 photocopier/printer/scanners. There's plenty of companies who deal in second hand office equipment. For some years I had a laser photocopier that would do up to A3, it was great for farm maps and printing off copies of my SFP forms. I think it cost me £80. A lot of the slightly out of date office equipment is as cheap as chips. Was a bit big though, took up a lot of space! Sadly it died a year or so ago, so has been replaced with another ebay purchase, a 3 in 1 job, but only A4 which is annoying me already.........

Just making the point in case ---. I've had excellent results from re filling toner , with no problems at all . I bought a "starter kit ", consisting of an electric soldering iron type of thing , without the iron end , and with a short piece of tube instead . This makes a very neat hole about 12 or 15 mm in dia. in the plastic of the toner cartridge , a few grommits , a small funnel , plastic gloves , and of course , a bag of toner . The whole lot was appreciably cheaper than a replacement toner cart. Very easy to do - just believe that toner is a VERY fine powder !! I think that the bag of toner was enough for at least 3 refills . I still have the outfit in my filing cabinet AFAIK , and the original refills have just kept running without further treatment . BTW , that is with a Brother multipurpose colour laser printer. Also , a point often missed with lasers , is that , unlike an ink jet printer , the printing isn't vulnerable to dampness or even rain , and that is a valuable quality .

Toner, like ink, costs far more than the printer. An example is a nice Lexmark currently for sale with starter toner for £113. Buy it with a large capacity 6000 page B&W plus 3500 colour pack of toner and it will cost £450 though. All plus VAT. I've not looked at how much just the toner will cost.

In these days of saving the plant, it’s utter madness isn’t it.

Sooner or later friends of the earth or someone like that is going to wake up to what’s going on and call these guys publicly to account. They’re effectively encouraging folks to waste precious resources and junk a good machine, because to buy a *consumable* costs 4 times as much as the complete original unit (albeit with a bit more powder included). Mad.

Which plant should we be saving?

This is the way to go but rent don’t buy - we have a big fancy Richo machine that does A3, scans, copies , double sided etc and is super fast that came out of a big office and mist have cost several thousand£ new from a local company that deals in used machines - it costs us £18 per month fully serviced including tonner supplied etc

cheapest and best way we have found to do it but it’s a big machine that takes up a lot of space

I bought one of those some years ago. It was a great printer and the A3 facility was useful for the odd occasion. It died after just 2 years, but I liked it enough to get another when I found one on offer. That one didn’t see the first set of proper cartridges out.

Got a similar HP now instead.

Brother do seem to be very frugal on ink! Rarely change the cartridges in ours.

None wasted on continual cleaning cycles I guess.

Had an OKI that went amazingly for over 10 years. Switched to a singing and dancing Lexmark multifunction which was an error. Cheap build, annoying to use and generally a headache. It ate one of its own photoconductor drums which gave us the excuse to replace it with another OKI.
