Hi, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
My dad has accidentally let some of his animals go past 36 months (he has parkinons and is trying to retire, but wanting to get the best price and organise the logistics of downsizing is proving too much, so he's getting behind with things) and is struggling to know where to send them to get the best prices. He's based near Leeds - does anyone have any advice or know any abattoirs who would take otm animals? (they are mainly south devons).
Sell them live in selby fat stock sale on Wednesdays.

You probably need someone who can look at them in the flesh like a farming neighbour or livestock market fieldsman to give you the best advice . If they are fit to kill and not incalf then an abbattoir or red market is your best bet. Tb testing to sell on as stores etc risks having a reactor and spoiling your plans of downsizing though .

Depends if you have a slaughterhouse near by, but they would be ideal for a butcher as long as they’re not to big.

They’d have to be fit too kill there’s no way on gods green earth somebody would pay over £60 a life for a store lamb lol
Have you not been to any sales? Think most store sales this past few weeks have averaged £68-£71 all over the UK.
Have seen some of them freaky beltex store lambs in there make over £100. Definitely not ready to kill. They get a good trade for them there.
Also what’s the issue of selling killing lambs in a store market that has abattoir buyers? Saves on levy. We’ve sold more there this year and been better off. Why support a levy board that doesn’t do anything for us at the moment?
To the question of poor mule cast ewes, we had some moderate things in and made £80 of them. Really wish we had some more instead of cashing them early on.

I'm told that a 'working party ' had been set up in Westminster to tackle the transparency in the meat sector but it has been on hold until after the election . If the Tories are re-elected then this will be re-set back up and will be meeting as a matter of urgency . ...we wait and see !!
Just wondering if @Guy Smith is able to enlighten us or not ?
