Yeah, some where over as tail enders from the last 100 or so. Some roughed on for two summers to grow frame.
I’m not saying they didn’t do you well. But when you think if they were 30 months you had about £1.10 to feed them a day for all their life. Admittedly the first 12 months you might of been in profit the last 18 months didn’t leave a lot. Not that any of that is your fault. Just goes to show our rubbish beef price!

I was just telling someone else, I roughed them on too long on good silage and a few kilo barley stalling hoping the price would rise, it didn’t but that’s the game. Some would have two summers at grass

Okay some ball park figures:

Costs/head:

Calve buying cost £50
Rearing to 12 weeks old £100
Days at grass 365 £365
Days housed 461 £690
Kill cost £50

Total................................ £1255

House/grass costs might look slightly high but that will include costs like water/meds/ deadstock/ farm assurance/ fencing/ labour etc etc.

Figures above based on selling at 30 months old and being on farm for around 900 days!

Lamb SQQ was UP 5.3pk on the week to average 1.92.7pk at Sedge today.

But last week was the Xmas show so in real terms the trade was UP even more than 5.3pk on the week...

Wont post the prime cattle averages for today as they were nothing short of a disaster!

Sold the last of our cattle at Darlington today. Happy enough with the trade as they were only small. Won't have made a penny on them though. Last time I will need to stand around a mart, although I may have to go for my lunch every so often.

A very sad day indeed:(

But good luck for the future and hopefully we will still see you posting on this thread from time to time (y)

And when you do get to the market make sure young moneybags aka northeastfarmer buys you lunch;):)
