Link is broken, what was the important news?

Johnston tractors of Carlisle jumped before they were pushed away by Deere, and now sell Valtra.

An awful lot of Valtras, that used to be Deere sales......

Announcement

It is with shock and a heavy heart we announce John Deere have made (in our opinion brutal) the decision that Sharmans are not to be part of their future Growth Strategy and have advised that we will not continue to be John Deere dealers effective 31st October 2020.

Despite being number one in our area for the last 25 years and never missing a target, this is now our harsh reality…

We first learnt of John Deere’s latest global Growth Strategy at a meeting in Agritechnica, November 2019. All 350 European dealer groups were informed that in future there would be a reduction of approx. a third to a fifth of current dealer groups, as well as an expectation of meeting the following criteria:

· Double Current Tractor Area (varies by dealer)

· 100m Euros Turnover

· 30 Combines, 15 Foragers to be sold each year

Although this comes as a shock to our dedicated and long-standing team of staff and our loyal customer base, we are resolute in continuing to provide our first-class support to the farming community and assure you that we will go from strength to strength as a solid, stable, family business.

Together with our wealth of agricultural business experience, committed workforce, premium suppliers and loyal customers, Sharmans will continue to embrace the future.

In the meantime, please be reassured that we will provide our usual service and support to all our customers.

Solid. Stable. Still Sharmans!

I’d be suprised if any Deere dealership sold 30 new combines a year or 15 foragers.ive no idear how many combines are sold in uk each year but if there are ten jd dealers selling 30 a piece that’s 300 and that’s excluding claas, new Holland and case and I’d be suprised if there are 300 combines sold new in uk each year.

I’m sure sharmans could supply tractors from their Scottish dealership to Lincs.cant see any reason why not.it coukd keep customers happy even though Deere may not approve.an uncle of mine locally gets his new Holland tractors from pecks in Lincs even though he got an official nh dealer 3 miles away.

Both local JD dealers do a Stirling job. Mason kings I understand sell more gators than any other JD dealership in the UK.

The Smallridges Brothers have been JD dealers for 30 years , but as we know brand loyalty means nothing nowadays.

Just heard off a long time machinery expert than the man who founded Deere & Co was of Scottish origin...
If thats the case i'll bet the fellor would be turning in his grave at this news today.

Expect a lot of changes to the John Deere dealer landscape over the next few years. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of dealers dropped by half.

In the USA they went from something like 2000 to 700 dealers and I believe it's still shrinking.

Personally I think this is a misguided strategy, if they are not careful they will end up like Caterpillar and Komatsu who ended up having to buy the dealerships as the only way they could stop the 'tail wagging the dog'

Deere originally wanted to build the factory that is now at Mannheim in Scotland after the war, however the British government wouldn’t let them due to a steel shortage so they wheat to Germany :banghead:
