Will they get the job done

Actually I'd suggest that ours and every other major economy needs to contract, not move forward. Anything else is simply feeding the climate and ecological crisis.

There is a well documented straight line correlation between GDP and energy use. We cannot cut our emissions without cutting our energy use. That means shrinking the economy: decimate food wastage, insulate ALL our housing stock to cut our heating energy use by 75%+, cut our travelling etc, etc.

Enact a proper environment act and regulator able to ensure that the true environmental cost is paid at the point of use for everything we do (so we actually pay for the Chinese emissions and resource use involved in our cheap imported goods). Rebuild our soil health, ecological diversity and water cycle efficiency.

Ditch GDP as a measure of progress in favour of resource efficiency and ecological impact.

I think that's probably a bit much even for Boris to achieve but such fundamental change would need a large majority to implement and we, the public, will never vote for the pain involved. We will just keep putting it off until our world collapses round our ears.

Boris is not going to even attempt to achieve that, or anything like it.
Climate change is as much of a priority for him as it is for his mate, Trump.

I've always voted Conservatives until now, Labour let the country down by not fielding a person electable even given the exttent of how distasteful Bojo and there gang are! They should have brought back David Miliband. Like many, its our democratic right to change our mind - holding a second referendum would have gone along way towards consolidating the decision either way and help bring the country back together, to move towards leaving or remaining. To claim otherwise is complete nonsense, but that time has now gone.

Our collective governments over the years have blamed the EU for all of their worldly problems, another year and there will be no one to point fingers at accept home grown ineptitude. There is no more corruption in the EU than anywhere else, our MP's included. How naive the public has become to believe in pipe dreams.

Yes just watched professor John Curtis much respected pollster say as much. He went further and said currently there is a small majority for remain in this country
Well that’s just rubbish frankly. To say that the northern labour heartlands were all remain, when they were 65-70% leave voting in 2016 is cobblers.
Those northern areas won’t vote Tory at any price and that is their prerogative, but it doesn’t make them remainers. Particularly when labour would not declare which side they were on for that very reason!

As a committed remainer, I recognise that our goose has been shot, plucked and probably been eaten.
if the liberals had seen any sort of revival, there would have been an argument to continue, but there was no such thing.
The best thing in my point of view from last night is that the country has got behind Boris and given Labour a very good kicking, they deserved it with their leadership.
I fear it will need another kicking to remove the Marxist hydra currently in charge, cutting off the head will only being about another probably harder left Mcdonell .
I will certainly put all, into working for a positive move forward for agriculture in the UK, recognising that this is certainly going to be outside the EU
Agriculture as we know it will be finished in England and Wales. It will just take 2 or 3 years for it to become apparent.

They did but not in any meaningful way, they should have hoovered up the labour vote. I do not think Swinson had the personality for the job, came across a bit of a left wing School ma'am.

It's because centrism is dead, and has been dead since about 2016.
Lots of labour centrists lost their seats, all of the CHUK joke lost their seats and the Lib Dems did bugger all, in spite of Swinson's slavish devotion to Tory policy (she's voted with the Tory whip more times than most Tories) and hoovering up disaffected Tory remainers.

Well, if he’s saying all labour voters wanted remain he’s an idiot.

The only voters we can be fairly sure wanted leave are Brexit/UKIP.

The only way we would absolutely know would be another referendum but I very much doubt anyone was unaware that Borris main point was getting Brexit done.
The election was as near to another referendum as we'll see.

Pigs and Poultry are not subsidised and manage to provide an awful lot of cheap protein.
I suspect that arable farming will get a bit of a wake-up call as subsidies wane.
At least the arable farmers won't be made to do a 4 day week now Corbyns gone. It must have been a real worry to them as to how they were going to find enough work to fill up a 4 day week

Similarly, there are plenty that have always voted Conservative, who could never bring themselves to vote Labour (particularly a very ‘red’ Labour), who weren’t necessarily ‘leavers’.

Glad to see that you now have a solid majority government, as least now you can get on with it and get things done,. Whether good or bad remains to be seen but you at least are able to make a plan, get on with it and move on.

We just saddled ourselves with a minority government a few months ago, so God only knows what we'll get in the near future.

Pundits would rather tie themselves in knots trying to explain away the result rather than simply accept the fact that Europe has always split the parties and always will.

As a remainer I totally agree, and as a remainer I never believed, Corbyn was one. I would have preferred a second referendum , but cannot argue that Boris's nearly sole point was "get Brexit done".
