But it still requires the harvesting of information whatever the reason or excuse.
To provide local information , it needs to know where you are!
it is all part of the Data act which means we get this twaddle every time you look at many web sites. Of course the question of what they harvest is where it gets extremely dodgy, most of course want to know your interest in purchasing, so they can flog you something. See all the adds when you log into face book which pop up.

I know, but information harvested is still data that could be used for all sorts of unintended purposes if leaked or stolen or handed over if required by law. It also normalises data rape as a part of everyday living.

Personally I'd have preferred a law giving legal ownership of data to the subject and requiring it to be paid for therather than GDPR that we got. That would have levelled the playing field!

Location data harvesting has huge benefits to members of society. For instance it provides information to google maps. Tracking mobile phones across the country This will then tell the sat nav information as to which route is the quickest to take saving time and fuel on a real time basis. That is of course if you have smart sat nav.
of course data harvesting for political reasons can have sinister implications.

You do of course have the option on all these sites to turn off all cookies, but don’t expect those reliant on selling such material, to necessarily give you full access!

I kind of agree with Ollie. We’ve now had a second vote on Brexit via an GE and the result has been overwhelming. As an original remainer I accept the democratic voice and it has spoken twice. It’s time for folk to stop this incessant whinging and move on. Until and if we change the voting system it’s first past the post. PR which sounds good would ultimately end up with continual coalition’s where log jams and indecision would rule the day. I say to fellow original remainers, accept the result and get on with your lives.

Some Lib demmer just been on tv wanting a 2nd referendum ... ffs you've just had one

Access the bbc website abroad , it's full of adverts

One mans advert is another mans information board. And as if by magic coincidence as I type this an BBC iplayer information email (advert) has arrived.

As I have said I am happy to pay a subscription for the BBC service, in lieu of a licence fee. I just have to hope the vindictive Conservative and Brexit Party supporters do not destroy it in the dismantlement process first before privatizing it.

Hey ho.

That’s how it should be...the bbc should be like Netflix, if you want it you pay for it
I don’t want to watch eastbellenders or Strickly come dancing

As I posted, they still use your location for services such as your weather forecast local news etc.
just turn your cookies off if you are that concerned!

May I advise that you read their cookie policy (my bold) -

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies let you use all the different parts of the BBC website. Without them, services that you’ve asked for can’t be provided.
Also, as a public service, we collect data from you to help us understand how people are using the BBC online, so we can make it better. We sometimes get other companies to analyse how people are using the BBC online.

Ours is like that, ruddy useless, you could have fielded a monkey in a blue tie and it would have won. Does bugger all except hob-nob with the great and the good of the area. Must be one of the safest Con seats in the country.
Oh well at least he is spending a fortune on having a new Cotswold stone wall about 6ft high built either side of the entrance gates in Daglinworth. It is a nice job they are doing and hope the guys doing it are making a few quid out of it.
