Advertising working dogs/ puppies

I see in the MVF newsletter they say they will be unable to advertise pets/ working dogs/ puppies due to a change in the law.
I presume this is something to try and clamp down on "puppy farms" but anyone know any sense?
@Clive will this affect advertising them on here do you know?

How are we supposed to source, or advertise working dogs/ puppies?

DEFRA are behind the new dog breeding regs that are developing. Breeding more than two litters per year requires registration with the local authority. So I guess registration numbers will be required on ads etc. Certainly aimed at the puppy farm scammers. Just hope the councils can find the staff and the time to do all the checking etc. As always, the good breeders will have no issues with the new regs.

One suspects that the likes of Mole Valley are more covering their backsides than following specific new rules on adverts. The new regs are more about registering breeders and ensuring they are inspected and controlled than stopping adverts. But given breeders are now supposed to give details of their registration on ads (if they qualify to be registered) I expect MV (and others in similar positions) are wary of taking ads that purport to be from part time and non commercial breeders (so don't need a registration number) only to discover they are illegal large scale breeders who should be registered under the new legislation. So they're washing their hands of the whole thing as too problematic to deal with.

And therefore drives the sales underground and makes puppy farms even more difficult to find and prosecute.

This has happened on Facebook. Total ban on sales of animals. A real pain for horse owners as it was very convenient to post photos and video, then do some research on prospective purchasers. But as said, there are all sorts of ways around the ban. "Dobbin is looking for a new home. PM for further details", etc.

That is not strictly true.

It is a ban on the private sales of pets.

Livestock and farms/businesses can still sell on Facebook without being banned.

I think you'll find they will get around to it. They just don't want to pee off a lot of people all at the same time.

Neither atm.
Just saw the statement on MVF newsletter and a, wondered what the reasoning was
& b, thought that's a pain if it's gonna be people aren't gonna be able to advertise.
