So, managed to get the excavator project finished after a few hours last night and a good session on it today. There’s some really nice details on it but seemed to take forever, was well worth it though and the controls can only be described as awesome?.
Few pics of the finished product ?

This is a nice feature in the controls, you can drag the boom arm, bucket and rotation to whichever position you like and it automatically goes to that point. All the actuators are calibrated so it knows exactly where they are. View attachment 851249

Pretty fly for a Lego kit!

And a fleet photo for size comparison

I've got the dozer and crane in your pic, the liebherr must be some size when you see it. I was planning on getting the liebherr, plasma has blown the budget though.

Me and Ben watch a lot of colin furze on YouTube and bens adamant we've to built a go kart.
We were in the car on Christmas eve and Ben pipes up " Daddy your cars getting all old and broken, you but a new one and this one go away, we'll keep the engine for my go kart though", couple of minor issues with his plan, the engine in my car is a 240hp 3lt and he's not even 4 yet.

Only finished it this afternoon but the controls make it so much more of a machine, well worth the build. Been tracking round the living room scooping stuff up for the past hour ?.

Forgot to mention the angle sensors if you track over something more than 30* you get a till warning ⚠ . Also gives you how much of your hydraulic flow your using. Now that’s a bit trick ?

ps. The motors are also all proportional so you can feather them which is something new, much better than the old on/of system.

You're not really helping keeping pointing out all the new features on it. I really can't spend anymore on toys for a while I don't really want to know what I've spent so far getting set for the plasma.

Bloody hell. £350 for some plastic bricks sounds expensive. But £350 for something that can do that many (admittedly pointless ;)) things seems pretty good value. Certainly puts the tech into technic.

Not really anything un-expected, the compressor I use on my hand held cutter wouldn't be upto the cnc plasma so needed to change that, got lucky with a second hand one and sorting out a better filter/dryer setup. The other expenses aren't directly related to the plasma but seeing as I'm having a big rearrange in the shed to accommodate the table may as well sort out some other bits as well.

It seems that grandsons can always (only!) rely on the farmer grandfathers to build all the stuff they get for Christmas!
My grandson has always loved his Hornsby train-set, which he mostly keeps here.

He told me that he wanted a Virgin Pendolino set for Xmas. They don’t make them any more so I looked on Ebay. The trouble is that Virgin have lost the franchise and all Virgin train-sets are now much more valuable. I kept being outbid to get one in time for Xmas.

Then I spotted one that ended on Xmas day at 3 O’clock, thinking that everybody would be either too drunk or watching the Queen to put a last bid in to secure it. As my grandson wasn’t coming here till Boxing Day, I contacted the seller, who lives 10 miles away and asked if I was the winning bidder, if I could pick it up.

By Xmas-eve it had already gone over my limit, even though I hadn’t actually placed a bid yet. So I chickened out and went and bought a complete new train-set of a GWR Intercity 125 from a local toy shop. (Intercity 125’s are about to end soon too.)

However, at 1 minute to 3 on Xmas day, I was just drunk enough to be watching Ebay and put in a cheeky bid “for the hell of it” and won!
Dilemma! I now have 2 train-sets, having already wrapped the GWR 125!
Answer - he gets the GWR for his Birthday in May...........
However, although he has a track set here, he has the controller box at home and forgets to bring it with him.
So I have to hide and unwrap it to take the controller box out of the GWR 125 set!

Then, he and his mum decide that they would like to have a proper permanent tack-set at home and they need a track-mat to do so. (They will buy some plywood locally to fix it to.)

Again, I have to unwrap what is now going to be his Birthday present to get that out too!

I’m getting rather good at re-wrapping presents!

Here is track no.2 on track-mat no.2

When I was little my old man brought a scrap ride on mower removed the deck put a good strong hitch on it made me a trailer and a snow plough for it and I had hours of fun with it was the best thing ever for a farming mad lad
