I know this will open a can of worms !!Thinking of replacing Destoner / Harvester tractor . Have been JD for a while but got a quote from Fendt as well . Surprised how close on price they are on paper . What are peoples experience of fuel consumption an do you go on rated hp or max ? Servicing cost seem high on a Fendt ?? Any other thoughts on comparison ? Thanks

Fendt will be worth more second hand and the vario fendt makes is only true vario out there. Plus they look betr than anythin else out ther. If was me and same money id go fendt
Please explain why Fendts is a true vario and JDs autopower isn’t. From what little I have driven them they seem the same

Well a jd has ranges which change automatically when accelerating/decellarating where as fendt has field range and road range and once your in either range its totally hydrstatic from 0-top speed thus its a true vario whereas a jd on the road will start in range 1 and work its way up as your speed increases and down as speed drops. Mabe on the new 1s this isnt noticable but on the older 1s ye could tell when she changed range

I didn’t realise that. Thanks for explanation.

Just driven my first autopower today, and wasn’t very impressed tbh. Thought they were supposed to be easier to drive than a Fendt but the Fendts we have owned were far more intuitive to drive. Maybe I have been driving it incorrectly but on the road in pedal mode it only shut down to 1900 revs on the flat with nought on the back, our Fendts went down to 1600 revs in that situation. Have to say it felt flat compared to our autoquad, so if going jd vario make sure to have plenty power on tap. If similar money Fendt will be a more cost effective long term purchase.

Fendt developed the vario in the 70s but funding stopped the development till the mid 90s, can,t comment on the jd but came a lot later. The jd auto power tractors i know about seem to be ok but according to jd dealerships they seem to prefer the power shifts for 2nd hand and ease of selling.

Got 2 6155r here one done near 3000 hours and other 300 no issue apart from 4wd switch on the older one and new add blue pump .tank of diesel would do a day and a half on cs150 destoner pulling that at 4.5 /5km all day long, driven fendt 818 back in 2005, was good had a demo of 939 couple years back bought a 8320r instead, happy with the 6155 no reason to want a fendt boss would have bought me a fendt if I wanted one

Exactly fendt developed the thing right and was first to market a vario. Then when all the othet manufactures realised they would need a cvt to keep up they went and got a tranny with auto range changes and a hydro unit for in between speeds and marketed them as thier vario offerin but ther not really a true vario

Isn't having 4 ranges a benefit not a draw back as it means more of the drive is mechanical and thus increase efficiency , my little 4cyl autopower drops to 1600revs on the road and cannot feel the range changes at all .

It was easy to drive in pedal mode on the road but if pulling a drill at say 14k and 1500 rpm what would be the best way to go about it?
