Only in the past few years have I opted for several thousand hours extended warranty and service contracts to go with them when I buy new tractors. In general getting extended warranty is included in the deal to buy but the dealer knows that I will give him the guts of €2/hr for the service contract. Some of u pose the question “will the extra costs of dealer servicing be recovered when u trade the tractor”? I’m not sure about that but I can say my tractors at trade in time seem to be in demand and I assume it’s because the buyer is able to see that the tractor has been dealer maintained and has warranty left on it. More important to me about warranty and service contracts are the peace of mind I have in that I know if there is a catastrophic failure of transmission or engine or whatever it’s not my problem. I’ve seen lots of all different brands of relatively new tractors inc JDs taken apart in dealer workshops and I’m told that repair bills can 8-25k euros. The warranty and service contract look cheap as insurance against such bills. If it makes the tractor more attractive to purchasers or the dealer at trade in time then that’s just an addded bonus. That’s why I opt for extended warranty and service contracts which some people don’t bother with. It perhaps depends on how risk averse you are too!

if the Trans fails on these VT's its all covered but we both know that !

Sorry to alter your post, but I think @chaffcutter said one of clive's had a problem with the gearbox and they had to pay in warrenty because the tractor had "over sped " in the stored history. but I may have misunderstood the post.

They wont if they find out your tractor has overspeeded itself if its a trans issue then after
maybes depending on how far over the tractor went & how often i dunno what the terms are

If it's stayed with same tractor dealer that would be easy to find out.
I bought a 04 t2 6480 with FSH 11 years ago. The mechanic and farmer had simply filled in date/hours and work done in operators manual when serviced. 1135 fastrac had same.

Didn't pay more because of this. Somebody could have quite easily got a few different coloured pens and done it night before.

Bit like farm assurance.

How is it £5000 more to service it , what do you put your time down as when you do it your self ? our machine will be some of the best serviced machines in the country , whether done in house or by a dealership, we have our oils tested on the machine we service it house to see what is going on with things, you know oil & grease are your best friend , we do not all ways trade tractors in we market them to get the best price we can for them, every body to there own business
In our experience it costs about a £1 extra to have the dealer service it. In that case over the life the tractor will have with us that come to £5000. As a rule if the tractor is being serviced then I'm not driving it so particularly in the summer there isn't much else I can do.
