Drilling anyone?

Yes, we've used both of them this time putting in grain crops straight on the plough.

The I-Hs never give up except for an occasional broken leaf in a springtine every 10 years or so, but the wings on the Weaving loudly complain with every bit of hard going.

In fact, we've now doubled up on each wing's wheels, just to try to keep them out of trouble as much as possible.
We must have heavier or rougher seed beds than you, as when we had an IH drill it was a full time job changing leaf springs, either that or the tines moved on the clamps.

Sounds like you may have had one with the ordinary spring tines and not stump jumps which are positively located on the floats between twin lugs and not by clamps.

Love the same! We had several 874-90 Lamborghini equivalent.
Great wee tub for what I need, I don't think you'd get a better machine for a 3 metre disc drill either, especially on duals.

Put in 1240kg of seed across 15+ha and put 56.6 litres in the tank after

Seeds just away, 75mm in past 12 hours will do them some good (y)
another 75mm to come over the next 48 hours forecast

Was just thinking about this after I posted it and I can fully understand why some people have 6 or more tractors on small acreages and I think I haven't because I hate to have them outside and lack shed space. I have compromised though and hire one for autumn drilling to take the pressure off my aging TMs and my aging self, this year it didn't go to plan as one of the TMs decided to have harvest off. Plus side, in a perverse way, I didn't do a lot of spraying.
I never take mine off! We've a front box rear power harrow, coulter bar too.

Once its on, thats it for springtime, probably 6 weeks.

We're lucky we have plenty tractors.

I've got some Skyfall to go in. Only 8 acres - advice please - would you go sooner or wait until I think it will actually have a chance of getting up and away ie late feb? Bearing in mind we're not a winter drilling county anyway
Personally, I would wait til it has a better chance, but you know your land.
Seed and drilling are the same price regardless?

Hmmm. Sounds very similar to a few of the local punters (and there are only a few, it's livestock land here) a few months back
Probably similar to your situation, too dry for too long and then when it remembered about raining we had 250mm just like that, and it kept coming.

Some mauled it in, some even got the ploughing contractors in; but by early summer you wouldn't know one from t'other unless you got out and looked at plant populations.
The early-drilled stuff was much thinner, but the weighbridge tells the full story

Rape seems to be this season's colour, just to add a little salt, there is rape all over the show; I think basically everyone with a combine is growing lots of rape this year.

My question is does anyone know where I can find old RLs to look up latest safe sowing dates for varieties no longer on the list?
Will this be of some help to you, Flat 10?

https://ahdb.org.uk/rlarchive

Interesting to see that Claire was (End Feb) from 2004 until 2014 when, for no apparent reason, it became (Mid Feb). only to become (End Feb) again in 2015, only to become (Mid Feb) again in 2017, after which it was delisted.

No doubt the HGCA will somewhere have published an adequate explanation for all this potential confusion - as soon as I can find it I'll post it up here without delay.
